Deep Silver Obliged to provide a Chat Box Hotfix?

Think I'm gonna stick with my LMB click solution. It's pretty quick to do (even in the middle of a fight). Rather do that then have the chatbox visible all the time. Kudos to the individual who made the hotfix though, I'm sure it'll help out a lot of peeps.

DO NOT TRY THIS ON A GOOD CHARACTER

I was in freeply and as soon as the first player enterd. my focus went to the chat box and I could not get it back to the game. LMB, ESC, nothing worked. I almost lost my toon and was able to hit ESC and quit before I died.

I am unistalling until I can test on a throw away char.

That was me that popped into your server. I hoped I had not caused you a death :( I knew there was something wrong with the chat box this patch, but I was not aware of how bad the problem was until I found this thread, and recognized loco was the one in the server.

If anyone is interested in voice, I have a 10 slot vent server I will likely be expanding on early next year. I know this is no solution, and this issue should be fixed and fixed correctly.

No you didn't cause me a death and it was only a level 3 Char. but I had to bail because nothing I did would return focus back to the game. I could move my char with mouse, and was able to run from the Kobalds LOL (that just seem funny to say) you say me trying to hit every key I had. was strange.

Hmmmm

For me it seems to be fixed. [Original file of sacred]

I need to press 2 times ENTER to write in the chat, and when someone talk the chatbox is not auto-actived.

It's a good new for all or just a bugged bug for me ? :(

Can someone remind me why are people using hardcore characters to test things? :D

That was working pretty well for me Knuckles. Until I played the kamikaze the other day, lol. It wasn't until last Sunday that I felt the full force of this problem. Even as quiet as we were during the Kami, I was having all kinds of problems. In fact I was even afraid to type anything in fear of chat attacking someone to death, hehe. The LMB solution is erfectly fine for 2-3 players I think but when playing on a server with 6 or more players I think a lot of players will start to go bonkers. ^^

Generous offer Smith. :)

I think I have a solution to the troubles you had with the patcher.

I hope to have the same functionality soon! ^^

Cause this is HC! There is ONLY HC. :)

Good news btw! I've been chatting with the creator of this patch and he's put together a special patch for us International players. Give it a go and let us know! before you install it though you may want to create a windows restore point. That way if it doesn't work well for yahs you can just rollback to that restore point with no need to uninstall anything. Also, If you have anti-virus you may want to turn that off when you install this patch. The creator, czevak, of the patch is an official German Sacred Forum moderator. If you like his patch you might want to thank him on his topic:

Inoffizieller Workaround Patch zur Umgehung des Chat-Cursor-Bugs (Original in German)

Unofficial workaround patch to bypass the chat cursor bug (Translated to English by Google)

Here's a PM from czevak answering my question of whether the patch will work for us International players:

Hi Schot,

I would be surprised if the Patcher even did anything on the int. Binary. Since the Checksum is different, it shouldn't do anything to the file.

The architecture of the international binary is totally different from the german one. I located my function call in your binary and created a patcher for the International Community as well.

I hope this does the trick: International Patcher

Test it. If it works, you are welcome to host it on Darkmatters.

Gruß czevak.

Here's hoping this works well. ;)

On Sundays Kami I didn't seem to have a problem much at all with the chat bug. Saying that I also had both boxes checked for group only. I probably missed alot of info but it worked for me. We also were killing much too fast to do much typing. I would just follow the group leader or blue arrow for the next quest. When I got into town I would unchecked the group only boxes to listen in on any good info.

Still I'd have to say when I play multi player server I stay ready for a double click. Only time it really might affect me is if I'm solo and not expecting anyone to pop in on me ie 2-3am. But I'm getting better at expecting that as a few guys out there are poling into my server at about the same time each night so I'm ready for it and always enjoy the company.

For me it was also hard to always slap Esc key lol but I think I got the hang of it with the lmb thing, im just hopping that deepsilver/kosch Media do something about it because this is annoying and really dangerous for hc toons. On kamy I was like afk for 5 mins because of a phone call when I got back I was being abused by some kobolds and I was almost bitting the floor, I was like slapping space and nothing would happen because of this damn bug then I pressed esc key and everything was alright but damn this experience gived me like a heartattack.

It got me once. unprepared for it when I was getting beat down by legionaire undead Champion. I needed to hit the space and just then a chat box popped up. it took me just a second to realize my health was not working because there is a second or two delay between hitting the space bar and seeing your health restore. I got it in time not to die but I lost my mount. Actually the mount saved my life, I bet!

Well I've finally had a chance to try this fix out. I very much like the goal and implementation of this fix. It is intended that the chatbox will always be visible but mostly in it's translucent inactive state. While inactive, any messages recieved will not cause the chatbox to become active and thus steal focus. For me this is only half working at the moment. The problem I'm having with the fix is that the chatbox is not remaining on screen as it is supposed to for this patch to work. Eventually my chatbox will slide away into the screen. Upon the next message recieved the chatbox will slide open, become active and steal focus.

It would be great if others could test out this patch and give their feedback. maybe it will work better on someone else's system. Quick FYI, what czevak's fix does is edits your sacred2.exe file and at the same time will make a backup of your original sacred2.exe.

  1. Close Sacred 2 game if it is active
  2. Put czevak's chatbox fix (UK International) in your C:\Program Files (x86)\Ascaron Entertainment\Sacred 2 - Fallen Angel\system folder
  3. Run the int-S2chat-patch.exe

The fix will create a backup of your sacred2.exe file which you can find in the same system folder as mentioned above. The backup file will be called sacred2.exe.BAK. If you do not like the changes the fix made you can undo those changes very easily:

  1. Delete the sacred2.exe file
  2. Change the name of the backup file, sacred2.exe.BAK, to sacred2.exe
