Furian67 15 Author Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) When you go shopping and you have a Bargaining suit that you wear Please remember to put your Battle Suit back on. After shopping one day Schot came out to play, (oh there's a ryme there but I lost it) we were grinding in the orc region and I couldn't figure out why I was taking damage. Until I got a close-up view of my Toon with his shiny white suit on. My Battle Suit is CC10 set for my Temple Guardian, Its Blue. So Careful out there. As Moma used to say "No playing in your good clothes!" Edited February 15, 2010 by Furian67
Schot 433 Posted January 17, 2010 lol, I remember that! Not to mention done that. A much needed addition indeed.
Woody-01 0 Posted January 17, 2010 I'll add something here. - Never play with an enraged woody ! This is very dangerous.. This can give an instant rip in temple gardian's traps @ level 46 in gold. Oops *Woody run away* (Yes, I know, I have some account problems... )

Oops *Woody run away* (Yes, I know, I have some account problems... ) Well...um...hmm...I'm thinking I need more clarification before posting this one to the "Rules". But Mama did say "If you wouldn't play with it, it wouldn't get that way."
Furian67 15 Author Posted January 17, 2010 It's just a joke. lol. Yep figured that. We had a good laugh anyway. Ps Woody, how did you mod your signiture to get your toon info beside your sig pic?

Wish we didn't need them but.........
locolagarto 18 Posted February 26, 2010 After many HC deaths, near misses, close calls, missing limb or two, and the two by four Schot keeps hitting me in the back of the head with (starting to leave an impression). I started thinking of a set of rules to keep my bacon out of the pan. I'd like to make this a DarkMatters Rules to live by and have everyone contribute what helps them. I'll keep this up to date as more rules come in. So here goes. Rule #1 If its purple RUN Rule #2 If you get that "oh Crap" feeling RUN Rule #3 Know your enemy-whats its damage, armor, Combat Art. Be extra careful around enemies that can Reflect, DeBuff and Leech Life. Getting to know the most deadly enemies and why they are so deadly can go a long way to surviving Ancaria. Rule #4 Never grind with the toon that has all the money Rule #5 Never grind with the toon that has all the goodies in the personal chest Rule #6 Have an excape plan in case of Rule #2 Rule #7 Don't get overconfident, it only takes one hit for Rule #2 Rule #8 Never play when tired. Just as your head nods towards the keyboard you might need a health pot. Rule # 9 Constantly slapping the space bar is not normal! Just cause your killing everything in sight, doesn't make it alright. Refer to Rule #2.Pushing the space bar quickly several times will cause the effects of your Health Potions to diminish upon each successive press of the space bar Rule #10 Never under estimate your foe. Rule #11 Never over estimate your character. Rule #12 Never go AFK in a spot you think is safe Rule #13 When in doubt F12 (believe its F8 for Ice and Blood) is your friend. Rule #14 Teleporting to party members is risky. Always be prepared for the worst before teleporting! Rule #15 Lag is the worst Boss, if it takes 5 or more seconds for the game to register the damage, get out of the server and reload. Rule #16 On Consoles If something doesn't seem right, Restart! Rule #17 Thou Shalt not Stop before the Dash is Done. Rule #18 Don't follow in the footsteps of the Mad Dasher. Rule #19 Don't rush your build, or campaign, things will come together in their time. Rule #20 Thou shalt not wear thy fancy clothes to play in. Rule #21 Always make sure your Buffs are active before heading out. Rule #22 When a more experienced player asks you if the levels of enemies are ok, They are trying to warn you! Hey I see a few additions since I last read them. Very cool!
Barristan 14 Posted February 26, 2010 Heya, seems I am violatin #5. I want my mules at higher lvls, so they can wear xmas sets Hehe.... I was there when #22 was made! Greetz
Knuckles 904 Posted February 26, 2010 Couple more Thou shalt close the Chat Box before battle and especially before drinking a health potion Thou shalt ask where everyone is and where everyone was. Thou shall ask who started server session (quest enemy bug can hurt)
Furian67 15 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Thou shalt ask where everyone is and where everyone was. Very good point. This has nailed my coffin a few times in the past. Also if I've been playing solo and a someone pops in that is more than 20 levels above me and leaves I'll restart the server so I don't run into the same issue.
FrostElfGuard 9 Posted May 18, 2010 These Rules to Live By are great! I was wondering about Knuckles' post here: Just thought of one Thou shalt wait a couple of seconds before moving after thou hast teleported or entered/exited a cave to allow most noble enemies to materialize It doesn't seem to be covered in the Rules. I know I recently started using the one way portals on the Island of Many Roads, and when you first teleport into a virgin area, the server has a lot of work to do. It has to get the land generated, the mobs selected and placed, your mount placed (always seems last), etc. Using the one way teleports causes the server to do a lot of work at once. If you start moving before it has ... oh. This then is a Mad Dash. Doh! Nevermind. Keeping the post as a bump. We all need a bump from time to time.

This would be a rule that I would classify as Honorable Rules to Live by. When you port in (most times) the spawns are not there waiting for you. If you start to run immediately they will not spawn until you stop moving. This takes the danger out of a Mad Dash. Be warned though, in some areas or in cases of absolute beautiful ping there will be a huge mob waiting for you and beating the life out of you already when you port in. Always be ready for that situation so you can avoid a R.I.P.

Always be ready for that situation so you can avoid a R.I.P. Before I got used to the concept, I would have the resurrection monolith in the machine lit. I'd go into the guardians, and die (console/single player). Upon resurrection, insta-rip from the TG and Fen Fires (& no buffs). Re-ressurect, insta-rip. Quit Game, re-start... (oops, I forgot I started here 8) Insta-rip. I actually deleted a character because I didn't figure a way around it (Free World for the win). Not really a "rule to live by" but I created the rule for myself: Never activate the Monolith in the machine. The only time I do now is if I plan on farming the guardians. But, maybe a new rule based on Chattius' findings: Never have 0 armour vs. any element in Niob, since the damage can be 3x or more!
Furian67 15 Author Posted June 15, 2010 But, maybe a new rule based on Chattius' findings: Never have 0 armour vs. any element in Niob, since the damage can be 3x or more! So very true, sorry it took this long for me to update this.
Llama8 11 Posted June 29, 2010 Rule #1 When your still young and untested, if its purple RUN Though if it's the Muggers in Sloeford/Thylisium & you've got a nice ranged CA, run like the wind & plink away at their HP (though they can be pulled a surprising distance). Rule #8 Never play when tired. Just as your head nods towards the keyboard you might need a health pot. Though if you do, make sure your head hits the spacebar... Rule #11 Never over estimate your character. If your killing all in sight and not taking any damage, WATCH OUT, It only takes one hit to waste your day. But if everything's dead, what's there to worry about? Other than spitting spiders & their DoT... Rule #18 Don't follow in the footsteps of the Mad Dasher. Though if you have a nice Area of Effect CA, it's a target rich environment... Rule #19 Don't rush your build, or campaign, things will come together in their time. Bah! Get yourself rushed through the campaign then see what level the wolves are in Sloeford. In a passworded single person server. Rule #24 When playing on a server with toons at a higher level then yours: a) Thou shall ask who started server session (quest enemy bug can hurt) ie: Muggers in Sloeford. b)Thou shalt ask where everyone is and where everyone was. Running into an area you thought was clean only to find a mob 40 levels higher than you really sucks! It's also an opportunity to see just how sturdy your build is. As well as your underwear.
locolagarto 18 Posted June 29, 2010 All too funny Llama.! Glad you see the half serious/half fun in all these rules. They really started saving our skins when we began righting rules from our adventures.
essjayehm 58 Posted June 30, 2010 Rule #18 Don't follow in the footsteps of the Mad Dasher. Though if you have a nice Area of Effect CA, it's a target rich environment... I've always wanted to try this Have one person start in Skooks' Corner, one in Orcish Byway, one in Griffinborough and one from Nagash's Nest. Everyone meets at the Boar and we'll see who lives/dies/laughs thier ass off. Probably better way to do it, but you get the point!
