Hey thanks,
I tried it and managed to get the *.gr2-File :-D
But the evegr2toobj.exe wouldn't start :-( just the cmd-Window pops up and closes immediately. And I didn't understand the readme.txt neither.
Sorry for me beeing so dumb
No worries, that's fine. Like I said, the tool works through the command line, which means that you'll need to manually type in the commands in CMD.
Hopefully this video will help you figure it out.

This video will show you how to use Cheat Engine and my Sacred cheat table to modify the Steam version of Sacred Gold. After watching the video, you'll be able to:
- Change your character's skills at any time in-game, including to those normally unavailable to your character class.
- Equip any item regardless of its requirements, including items normally unavailable to your character class.
- Learn, level and use combat arts of other characters.
- Summon any creature/character in the game the same way the Wood Elf summons her unicorn.
- Play as normally unplayable creatures/characters (you can play as a dragon, Sakkara demon, Baron DeMordrey, rabbit, etc.).
What you'll need for this:
- The English Steam version of Sacred Gold (unfortunately, the cheat table will likely not work with any other version of the game).
- Cheat Engine.
- My Sacred cheat table.
- My Sacred modding spreadsheet.
If you want to convert the cheat table to another version of the game but don't have any experience working with Cheat Engine, I'd recommend to start by watching these tutorials by Stephen Chapman.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out, I'll try to help.
I'll probably do a couple more Cheat Engine tutorials later down the line (on how to use NPC combat arts and how to give armor to your companion) so stay tuned for those.

I'd Like to know the convoluted was
Actually I've just remembered that there's yet another way to convert GRN to OBJ, a much less convoluted one. It mangles UV maps though but I don't think you need them for 3D printing anyway? So you should be good.
First, you'll need to convert GRN to GR2 using the method explained here (scroll down to the "Granny 1 format" section at the bottom of the page).
Then convert the resulting GR2 file to OBJ using this tool (it works through the command line, check the readme file for an example of usage).
That should be it. Like I said, this method mangles UV maps and doesn't preserve skeletons but meshes should be fine.

@Ragnar1989 that's strange. Does it throw any error?
Try to download the tool from this link then. If it still won't launch, right click on the exe and run it as administrator. Another option is to try and launch the exe from CMD. Reloading the PC might also be worth a try, I guess.
The pic you linked doesn't show up but based on your description it seems that you're dragging the pak file to the tool exe? If that's what you're doing, it won't work unfortunately because the tool requires the path to the game folder and the path to the Granny Viewer exe.
Here's a brief video to give you an idea on how it's supposed to work.

Hey Ragnar. Use this tool to get GRN models from the models.pak.
Then follow this excellent tutorial by @RuDDicK to import GRN models into 3DS Max. Once you get the models into 3DS Max, you can export them as OBJ. You can also import and apply animations the same way to add some personality to the characters you want to print.
If you don't have access to 3DS Max, there's also another way to convert GRN to OBJ but it's reeeeally convoluted and it doesn't preserve skeletons so you won't be able to apply animations. So I would definitely recommend RuDDick's method. But let me know if you want me to explain the second method as well.

It's beautiful work! Really like what you're doing for the community, and keeping them up with new adventures. It used to be only Sacred 2 that had all the attention but there's been great buzz in the last year for the game's Underworld progenitor...
Great share friend
gogo
Thank you gogo!
I got some cool Sacred 1 modding/hacking stuff that I've been sitting on for years being too lazy to do tutorials haha. But when I noticed a modding subforum opened here, I thought it was now or never
I have a few more tutorials planned and will try to get to doing them in the coming weeks.

Here's a video tutorial that will show you how to change your starting companion to any character in the game, as well as how to get a starting companion for characters that do not normally have one (Seraphim, Dwarf, Daemon).
Let me know if you have any questions and if you want to see more Sacred Underworld modding tutorials here
Here's the Sacred modding spreadsheet that's used in the video.

@Inspired, the links should be working now. Please let us know what you are seeing on your end.
@Hooyaah still not seeing the links, unfortunately. Could it be related to a member's number of posts on the forum?
This is what I get when uploading a completely new file.
And this is what I see when uploading a new version of the existing file.

Hmm, could very well be. I just tested the Sacred 1 mods category. Here's a screenshot of what I see when uploading. Note the "Add files by URL" button at the top right that I've clicked.
And if I want to edit my existing file / upload a new version, there is also a "Linked Files" section:
If those are missing maybe we can get them added for all users.
I just double checked and yes, both the "Add files by URL" button and the "Linked Files" section are definitely missing for me.

@Inspired You can (and probably should) set the download button point to an external link. That's how I do it. Most of my mods are not small enough to fit under the 2mb file size limit either, they are hosted on Google Drive.
Oh, that would be a much neater solution for sure. Unfortunately, the uploader doesn't let me add an external link to the download button. It only lets me upload files from my computer. I wonder if it's something that's only available to admins/moderators?

Sacred Character Model Renders (Read Description!)
View File
Do not download the file, it's just a dummy used to create a page here in the Downloads section!
The actual renders are here.
If you want to use them for anything (art/modding references, website/wiki, video thumbnails, whatever), go ahead. No restrictions on the use and no credits necessary.
There's also a sortable index of all the currently uploaded renders.

That'd be awesome! Yah Sacred Mods would be okay for now, I can make new categories this weekend. Thanks for the share!!
gogo
No problem!
I used a bit of a trick in the Downloads section - I've only uploaded a dummy txt file with the link to the Google Drive folder since the folder itself is quite large (around 500mb now and it will continue to grow as I add more renders) so I don't think it's reasonable to upload it to the Darkmatters server. I've also provided the link in the description of the file page. Let me know if you're okay with this.

Awesome, and thanks for sharing your work Inspired!
is it possible to upload these to DarkMatters download section as well? This way you can get much more fans seeing your work rather than just this post
http://darkmatters.org/forums/index.php?/files/

Thanks gogo!
Sure, I can upload them there, although I don't see a fitting category for them. Do you think these would fall under "Sacred Mods"? They aren't really mods per se, more like fan art I guess.

I've been doing renders of Sacred character models for a bit now and thought I'd share them with everyone here in case someone else wants to take a look as well.
If you want to use them for anything (art/modding references, website/wiki, video thumbnails, whatever), go ahead. No restrictions on the use and no credits necessary.

A lot of games had keyboard layouts with overlayed shortcuts you could print and lay beside your keyboard. Some games used keypress code and not ascii code. So with a german QWERTZU keyboard you had to press Z for the Y in game, the german german and the swiss german keyboard are identical except the swiss has a . on the numberpad and the german one a ,
Lot of frustrating little differences in international keyboard layouts.
I think I still have a printed keyboard shortcut for a game which you could glue on the keyboard from good old Amiga times.
Yeah, I guess that's the reason for that shortcut document. I thought it was a long shot that the Swedish localization existed and that someone from Sweden still had the game and read the forum here after all these years but oh well, I had to try asking
Thanks for the input anyway!

Thanks for the reply Flix! I had also thought that there was no Swedish localization initially but then I discovered a couple of things that made me think there could be one:
1. Turns out Sacred was translated into a whole bunch of languages besides those you mentioned. For example, Italian, Polish, Hungarian and a few others. Not sure whether those were official localizations but the translations do exist and it doesn't really matter to me anyway whether the Swedish localization is official or not if it also exists.
2. There's a Quickstart.pdf file in my Sacred Gold Steam folder that contains the keyboard shortcuts info for the game in English and in a few other languages, including Swedish. That's an official document from Ascaron so I guess it suggests that even an official Swedish localization might exist after all.

Hey, I was wondering - does anyone happen to have a Swedish version of Sacred Underworld by any chance? And if someone has it, could you, please, upload the global.res file from it, which can be found in the "scripts" subfolder of the main game folder?

This is an old ritual site of a druid group. There were innumerable such groups, all more or less secret. No one knows any longer what they did exactly. Today they have disappeared.
I've found where this text is used. Or, rather where it was supposed to be used since I do not remember it actually being used in the game. Looks like this was supposed to be one of the remarks playable characters make when they enter an area or approach an object in the game world. For Dark Elf the number of the corresponding .mp3 file in the sound.pak is 16970. I haven't bothered to check but I'm sure all the other original playable characters have the same remark recorded for them. I guess the devs wanted it to play when the character approached one of the several stone circles of Ancaria? Maybe the one in Bellevue? I guess now we'll never know for sure.
There are actually other lines recorded and placed in sound.pak but not used in the game. I wonder why the devs decided against using them.

I'm sorry not to have more feedback for you Inspired regarding the characters... but just felt like chatting about this ultra nostalgic era about the beginnings of all of this and your topic seems to be going someplace awesoem...
No problem, gogo. Like I said, I'm glad there are people who are interested in the history of Sacred and I'm always happy to chat about it
22 hours ago, gogoblender said:are you planning on making a mod or a write up?
No, not really. I make small personal mods for myself, but they are not connected to my questions here. I'm just trying to find more information about Sacred and its development.
22 hours ago, gogoblender said:This topic fascinates me. I've always been intersted in the way back origins of this game. I'd known about Sacred's basics "bones" coming from Armalion, but always wondered about how this time frame affected Sacred's development... is it possible that the reason that the original game was so "good" was because the early dev work was bought at a less expensive price on the dollar which resulted in a game with twice as much development with a lesser true cost? As well... if we look at what the trailer states for the release... 2001 ? ... how long was this game actually in development before that projected date.. to then get to the final release of 2004 when we all started playing it here? ... is this one of the longest games in development ever?
I used to think the same until I found an interview with Michael Bhatty, the lead game designer for Sacred. It can be read here. I speak very little German and had to use Google Translate to read it, so if anyone here speaks German, correct me if I'm wrong. But from what I can understand, Bhatty says that when Ascaron bought Armalion, it was very unfinished, basically it had only one small location and one quest. So even though they used Armalion as a base, most of the work on Sacred was still done by Ascaron.
It sounds a bit hard to believe considering the number of character models made for Armalion and all the different locations shown in the trailer and screenshots. But still it is not impossible considering that game developers often show staged screenshots and videos from their games before actual locations and/or features are fully developed. That might have been the case with Armalion. Besides, I don't see a reason for Bhatty to lie, so I'm inclined to believe him.
By the way, that interview also has some very interesting info on Bhatty's plans for the expansion for Sacred. Those plans were later scrapped in favour of the Underworld campaign and Bhatty himself was removed from working on the game.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm glad there are still people who are interested in the history of Sacred.
I've been able to find some info on my question. There is another female mage as a crowd NPC in Braverock Castle in a cage in the market square and there are two more druids in the Underworld as quest NPC for quests Hunting Druids and Insect Blood for the Healer.
On a side note, I've also found an interesting text regarding druids in the game text files. I do not remember it actually being used anywhere. Here it is:
QuoteThis is an old ritual site of a druid group. There were innumerable such groups, all more or less secret. No one knows any longer what they did exactly. Today they have disappeared.
Does anyone know or have any guesses on where this text is used in the game and whether the site it refers to is an actual location?
-
Hey everybody! Recently, I've been trying to learn more about Armalion content that was carried over to Sacred. If you do not know, Armalion is an unfinished game that was bought by Ascaron and was used as a base for Sacred.
If you look at Armalion's playable characters, you will surely recognize that all of them were used in Sacred either as playable characters (Battle Mage, Wood Elf) or as enemies/NPC. At the moment, I'm trying to figure out how the Sacred developers used these characters. In particular, I'm interested in Female Mage, Male Elf and Male Druid.
I know that Female Mage is Anya from Castle Mystdale, as well as one crowd NPC, also from Mystdale.
Male Elf aka Elven Sorcerer can be found near Bellevue as a crowd NPC, in the Elven camp in Tyr-Hadar as a merchant, and as part of the Ilim Zhurag-Thalir quest as an enemy. Also this model was used for Wyn'gar Snakeblade in the quest "A Dish Eaten Cold".
Druid seems to be present only in two locations: as a crowd NPC in Mystdale Castle and as a combo master in the Elven camp in Tyr-Hadar.
What I wanted to ask is does anyone know whether these characters can be found in any other places in Sacred, other than in those that I've mentioned? Not counting texture swaps, of course, like all the male dark elves (who are basically texture swaps of the same model as the Elven Sorcerer) or Underworld dryad druids.
