  1. I was speaking ofmy grand^4-ma who died aged 103. She lived when the area had no train or road connection, so mainly from the local stuff. Pigs were wooly forest-pigs with way less fat, cows were used as a replacement for horses and only slaughtered when too old for work- tough low fat beef, sugar was not this white crystals but honey or melass from boiled sugar beets, plant oil was rare and a pot of pig fat had to last for a year,... Most recipes were boiled not roasted food and she allways drunk a cup of Dickmilch in the morning. Dickmilch= bacteria fermented milk. Add Sauerkraut, Rotkraut, Handkaese, Crayfishs were not endangered,....
  2. As soon as you start to use maths a food can't be healthy. Too much thinking is stress, and stress is unhealthy. Add that people are not same. Lactose intolerance and other stuff is genetic. Thousand year old process to adapt people to local food. Just eat the favourite food your grandgrandgrandgrandma taught you can't be a mistake. All studies showing that a certain group of people and their food has a longer life span are often ignoring the climate, working conditions and other factors.
  3. German rammstein wiki says that the name was done temporary and they stll searched for a better. But the name stuck to them like chewing cum on a shoe or a bad nickname. Very like to The Who who did song contests with different names and the time they won they had a stupid name and the organizer asked the who? And they said okay, The Who. They didn't thought that this would become their later name.
  4. Tomy knowledge Rammstein named themself Rammstein Flugschau when the band was founded. The second M a writing mistake. Flugschau is german for air-show. One of the bands covering Rammstein is named Flugschau
  5. They covered Rammstein too. But if I read or hear Rammstein- I have always the terrifying accident at he airshow at Ramstein in my mind. Was at airforce firefighters then and we visited a day after for cleanup and learning from mistakes.
  6. It happened several times now. We bought high price tickets for the original band- mainly for the life show. But at the concerts all the people in the rows before us have their hands in the sky holding cellular phones and cameras, sometimes just few centimetres in front of our faces.... The opposite at a cover band: It seems there is less to no reason to do a film and put it at youtube. We could watch the life performance and that at a way lower price (sometimes free). So we could bring the kids with and show them which kind of music we listened when their parents were young.
  7. After her car accident - http://darkmatters.org/forums/index.php?/topic/16390-car-accident/ - our second daughter was a bit handicapped in which sports she still could do. We are very happy that she won the district championship in Radball in a mixed team. Radball was chosen to remove fear when riding a bicycling by doing a sport which uses a bike. Learning controlling a bicycle, predicting and memorizing other vehicles (bikes), team sport, ... Didn't exspect that she would stay in it for more than one and half year now - perhaps the other half of the mixed team is a reason. Don't know how popular Radball is outside central europe, so here is a little video for beginners: and a german one Funny that the idea for the sport was born when a biker was attacked by a little dog and hurled it away by a gentle move with the forewheel.
  8. Yes, but corgi are more open graslands. Too many boars here hiding in the forests, fear they are too short-legged. But I think every place used to have their optimal localized breeds. Our state has the most forest of all german states, andgermany has the most of alleuropean countries.
  9. Spagehti-ice was invented in the nineteen-sixteens in germany. Read the wiki link in last post. Here it is quite common at icebars. But it isn'ttoocomplicated to make it yourself. If I would have invented it vanilla ice would be meadowsweet ice
  10. Nice recipes, we did Spaghettieis 3 days ago when temperatures were at 37 Celcius, strawberries are ripe and it is quickly done having a press for potato damplings, which can be used for noodles too. Spaghettieis -spaghetti-ice Spaghetti- replaced by vanilla ice pressed through a noodle machine tomato ketchup- replaced by strawberry sauce parmesan cheese- replaced by coconut pieces http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaghettieis Our vanilla ice is more yellow than in the picture, adding a bit saffron for a more spaghetti-like colour.
  11. We got our Runi from a nearby farmer whose youngest boy turned out allergic to dogs. So if he needs Runi for working he phones and the dog can run the 3 miles alone. If not for cows ,Runi is ecellent at catching frisbees. Old german races: http://www.herdingontheweb.com/english.htm The cow-dogs www.herdingontheweb.com/kuhhund.htm
  12. Our cow-dog Runi was in her element when the cows were brought back downhill. Runi is short for Runhild, which is from the ancient germanic words Run=secret/knowledfe and Hild= battle/fighting. She belongs to the endangered race of Siegerländer Kuhhunde (cow-dogs from the Siegerland area) and only around 140 still exist. More agile and robust than a normal german shepherd, the race is smaller. The race was mentioned in old documents reaching back more than 600 years. They were breeded for cleverness and agility in an area were wolves were almost extincted so size didn't matter that much. They were used to control cows in a woodland and hilly area where the cows where mainly feeding between bushes and trees. German wiki with pictures: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuhhund english wiki which mentions the race but no picture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_German_Herding_Dogs This video is showing a Westerwälder Kuhhund at work. The race is a close relative. Westerwälder cowdogs were breeded to bring a herde of cows from one field to another in hilly and bush terrain. Cow-dogs had a small comeback recently since they are very good to control cows with calves. Mother-cows can be very aggressive and the dogs are agile enough to evade.
  13. You know that this was the 5th word which was spoken at a telephon 1861? Gurkensalat = cucumber salade I like it best with onions and sour apples.
  14. We had 36C in the shadows last 2 days so the outcome was to be exspected: We had rain and hail hammering at the house - mid in a lightning storm around midnight. So our bed was suddenly over full of kids. Since the rain was arriving from france the clouds had released already some water when climbing the lower mountains west, so no flooding in the neighbour villages down in the valleys. But there have been areas with 55litres water by square metre in a single hour a bit farer away. At least my ponds and the fountain have enough water now.
  15. I did one run against all 4 bosses at the machine while the trophy was up: a legendary amulet with 7% all damage mitigation and evasion, an arni ring with - reg -time and chance for half reg-time, and a kayne amulet with +allCA/+allSkill, and some useless sets and uniques. The definition of useless depends on what you play If you play CM-patch: always store these clover trophies for a character with high alchemy.
  16. It's dow for me too Some info about the MF-trophy with my hardcore mentalist: alchemy at 110. no mastery, niob and the MF is 187.5%
  17. Time to watch the Store Wars video again? http://www.storewars.org
  18. We have boskop apples in our storage cellar. The cellar is 12 feet below ground, made from clay. The apples look still fresh. And I am way to lazy to do insectoids or wax. Just controling for skin damages and turn the ones sorted out into apple wine. I harvested the apples last october.... Another thing: Fruits and vegs release gases which boost riping. So knowing which ones do and which ones are highly affected helps in storing. Place the gas releasing ones close to the openings for air flow to the outside. Worked for centuries, cellar is 1797
  19. Restaurants use to buy deep frozen fatnets from slaughterhouses or specialized stores. Freezing is easy, but you have to water the nets before, I use to do this with the fat nets from boars.
  20. Yes, but mainly because Madonna looks more weird from day to day....
  21. MF-trophy is named Kleeblatt in my version= leaf of a clover, proably a four-leaved.
  22. Biggest pike ever in the world was in germany, but only around 50 german pounds. Pikes just bite everything that is sparkling: silver painted finger or toe-nails, piercings,... Good to know when fishing with a rod, just put a girl on the hook At least I don't feel afraid about the pikes which are in the small lakes which store the water in case of the farm or forest burning. Biggest had only 9 pounds the last time I caught it and pu it back in.
  23. Our second currently plays an Inquisitor in the youth club. even it is level 75 the last 2 skills are still open: armour lore combat discipline - mastered netherworld focus might focus - mastered ancient magic - mastered dual wield toughness netherworld lore ? ? The masteries may look strange, but ancient magic and combat displine support both trees. It works nice in teamplay. In solo play the tactic at bosses is to wield two kaldurs with life leech, cast the doubleganger (who will do life leech attacks now) and then spam stat reducing attacks, so the boss does less damage, is better to be hit, has less hit points, .... At multiple enemies: 2 nlovae staves and the sigil set, so range of the clustering is now multiplied by 1.3. More radius = more enemies clustered = higher damage. The plan is to go the magic find route. But without enhanced perception there are only 2 other ways: 1. socket as many MF as possible, but without the skill there are less of these items 2. take alchemy, which needs two skills, but you have to get the needed MF-trophies from friends since they are really rare, but powerful considering that an Inquisitor can get double drops from Bosses. So anyone knowing what is the best place to collect these nice MF-trophies or has a better idea?
  24. Meals on wheels started in UK in worldwar 2. Essen auf Raedern in germany 1961,... Food banks: Germany Here it is mainly callled Tafel. Tafel stands for the dinning table used in midage by nobles: long table with all sort of meals on. Switzerland They call it: 'Tischlein deck dich' after the fairytale from the Brother Grimm. English name for the fairytale is wishing table? The T in Tischlein is formed like a table: Austria has same name a swiss: I like Tischlein deck dich more than our Tafel. Especially if considering meals for kids at school. I don't know how well known the fairytale is outside german speaking countries, but perhaps there is an equivalent? Tischlein deck dich are the magic words you have to speak in the fairytale: little Table cover yourself ? There is a constant discussion if foodbanks target the right people. Several old women on countryside feel to ashamed to ask for help or are not able to drive to town where the Tafel is. Emigrants use the Tafel alot even they are normaly got more money from social networks than these old ladies from retirement payment. My wife (a doc) says that Meals on Wheels (a non free organization) is often more accepted by them and does the paperwork for the health insurance for them, so they won't have to pay the full price.
  25. Sharks, bah. We got a way bigger danger in germany. The headline of a newspaper today would translate as: Woman bite by a pike while bathing at a undressed beach http://bilder.bild.de/fotos/aaa-hecht-fkk-biss_33065438-1371551264-1-30887812/Bild/3.bild.jpeg
