My Introduction

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone my name is Rob, I'm from the UK

As a relative newcomer to the world of Sacred 2 unfortunately I dont know anyone so thought a brief about myself / history might be appropriate.

As an OAP of the game world (well 27 is getting on a bit in game terms) I have a colourful history of games played dating back to the Spectrum / Atari era. I joined the online gaming world with my purchase of Diablo 2, having played the original Diablo I purchased it in the first week and got stuck in. I stayed with Diablo 2 well into the expansion and had various projects on the go with various friends teaming up to try and top the ladders (when they were hard & long) best was a lance barb back in the pre-expansion Iceblink days which was top of the ladder for a period and ended the season around 14th, I eventually ended up running my own guild of around 15 people all based in hardcore mode and regularly put together PvP tourneys and the likes.

From Diablo I went into playing various consoles and had a brief spell playing in a counterstrike clan and attended a couple of LAN events (I-series in the UK) and eventually gave that up as a bad job and returned to RPG playing in the form of World of Warcraft. Again I played WoW from release and continued to play in various ways for a long time and again ended up running my own guild which was a fun natured but serious raiding guild, we progressed to being ranked around 6-7th on our server for a while and had a blast doing it. I have since left WoW and returned to a more casual playing regime due to work / girlfriend / etc.

Aside from my major involvement in the above I frequently played various game games such as Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, Hellgate: London prior to the servers going offline, Dawn of War 1 & 2, you get the idea!

Game playing aside im a reasonably easy going fella, I spent a brief spell in University studying Computer Games Programming however I now work a general office job with no relation to games, however does give me some time to be a forum troll. In addition I have a house to maintain, girlfriend I live with and a very young child so 90% of my game playing is done after 7pm while the baby sleeps or during the silly hours of the morning when the baby wont sleep on a weekend! I will spend the odd Saturday or Sunday with most of the day online form time to time when the little lady is out and about without me.

I as said above I am a newcomer to Sacred 2, I have been playing single player for a couple of weeks to get into the swing of it and see what the game is about and try out the various builds, my intention is to jump into HC with online play as thats where I always found myself in previous games that had an option for it. Generally always played in guilds/clan/whatever as games are always more fun when your not just solo grinding. My intention is to make a shopper seraphim with a slight varient on the 'Queen of blades' spec and once she is sufficient level I will make an Astral lord shadow warrior.

Now for your questions!

1. Favorite pizza topping

Chicken, Mushroom & Sweetcorn smothered in garlic sauce

2. Favorite Drink

In the home: Any decent whiskey (Told you I was an old git)

In the Pub: Stella or Guiness

3. Where did you hear about darkmatters.org from?

General browsing & researching the game and ended up reading your forums amongst others, yours seems one of the more active / fun / informative which generally suits my playstyle.

4. Most favorite book ever

Not a great fan of reading but probably the LOTR series or The Hobbit, probably partly responsible for my RPG/Fantasy game playing obsession.

5. Favorite movie of all time.

Aliens .... Not quite sure thats the correct answer... can I get back to you ?

6. Current Favorite Game?

Sacred 2 & Dawn of War 2

7. All time best video game ever played

erg... erm... nope to many I cant just name one!

Online: Diablo 2 - No contest, my first major online RPG experience (and boy it was an experience playing HC on dialup) played it from the very first week of release and its still installed on my laptop today.

Offline: It maybe a sterotypical / cliche answer but purely for personal game time it has to be FF7. Fantastic game and again I have it installed on the laptop and played through recently.

Retro: Moonstone! You know you all love the good old Amiga 500 and the disc swapping goodness.

Think I will leave it there for now or I will start crying thinking about old games.

8. Favorite sport or hobby?

Aside from games I own & ride a motorbike (Honda CBR600) which takes up a large chink of my weekends throughout the summer. Also love watching racing and attend quite a few of the BSB series when I can get there.

9. What do you want for your birthday?

A Stripper!

No really.... I have just moved house and could really do with a wallpaper stripper to speed things up.

10. Do you know anyone from our forum?

Unfortunately not, boooooo.

11. Who can you get and name from this forum that can personally vouch for you as a trusted member?

Again, unfortunately not, BOOOOOO in caps.

12. If applying for Fellowship Status do you agree to abide by all the posted Rules of the Fellowship?

(This question need only be answered if applying for Fellowship/Clan status for a sponsored game).

Well... OK, as you asked so pleasently....... Yes I will :pirate:

Thanks for reading the wall of text and hopefully see some of you guys online soon :4rofl:

Fantastic intro Rob and welcome aboard tha Dark ship. ;)

Loved your intro Shadrin. Made me laugh more than a couple times. Diablo on dialup, hehe. Now THAT is hardcore. And with the amount of gaming experience you've had I have no doubt you'll be teaching us about Sacred 2 in no time.

If you happen to see me on the servers come say hello. My characters have the Schot in their names. Unless I'm playing the clan account. Then it's Clan [D.a.r.k] as part of the name.

By all means feel free to get comfortable here and post about. :D

You dont know the half of it, there was 3 of us always playing together old NTL world dialups that timed out every 1:45 - 2 hours. Had to time eachother and protect the dropper when he stopped moving ;) was far easier once I got a decent line.

Out of interest how do u guys keep in contact most of the time in game ?

I just wondered if you used anything other than the in game buddy list to spot people online, managed to bump into a couple of you guys yesterday briefly and put you on buddy list. From what I can tell the buddy list tracks charecters rather than accounts which means its a pain with people playing various chars at once. Anyway if anyone spots me online feel free to give me a shout, my main chars are as below:

Kíanís - 'Queen of Blades' Seraphim

Shadrín - 'Astral Lord' Shadow Warrior

Ariavel - High Elf of some sort (not started yet)

Tsenge - Dragon Mage (Not started yet)

The 'I' in the names are not normal but there isnt to many similar names about so im sure you will spot them ;)

Cool....another Rob

Yeah the buddy list is really a major PITA. I don't even use it anymore. Typically we'll start a server with our forum name or a title with 'D.a.r.k' in it. So if you see a 'Knuckles' server going, drop on in and say hi :(
