Sacred 2 Guides on SacredWiki

Recommended Posts

Hey there everyone, with the new wiki page for Sacred 2 Player Contributed Guides, it has come to my attention that people may like to have their guides jazzed up a bit with links and formatting. None of the author's original words or wording will be touch (except in the case of spelling errors :drinks: ), links will be added to things such as Combat Arts and Skill Picks, and lists will be indented and the like. In an effort to not edit people's pages who want to do it themselves, I would please request that anyone who would like their guide page on the wiki updated to please post in this topic. It will help me and others to identify who wants this help and who doesn't. Thanks :faerie:

Thanks Ryan for getting this post going. We've all been about a week now, hastily adding guides to the wiki, and it's finally beginning to get a semblance of order. The first wiki contributed guides section for original Sacred had been completely formatted and organized by Claire, an Admin here at DarkMatters years ago. She was an enormously organized and quick typer. She was a magicianess with guides and could transform simple lines of prose into the most astounding reads.

The wonders of Formatters.

This time around, it had almost gone unnoticed that the number of guides was actually accumulating at a fast pace, and when looked at, I was, like you Ryan, astonished at how much reference information, written from a player's point of view, that could be brought over to the Wiki.

I've spent the last week bringing guides over, and after having figgered out some tricks for header and footer it's going quicker now. I got a bit burned out over the last two days with the guides but am back in action now and probably today or later tonight can return to task.

This time around, we're going to ask peeps themselves to contribute time to the guides regarding formatting and linking. Ryan, you've been an absolute great for this, and you've got good speed and "feel" for this job, thank you for the work you've contributed and, most importantly, for offering your services here now to help others.

I've seen loco also getting a practiced hand, and this is delightful. With a bunch of us attacking links whenever we have spare time, at least to change easy things like Attributes and Skills into good links that help readers understand what's on the page, the level of cross-referencing that Wiki's are famous for improves with every edit.

We'll use this topic as a sounding board for the next few weeks, and can come back to there regarding guides we're working on, as well as this we have undertaken the job re-organizing and writing the index page, and Schot and I are currently reviewing our set up there, and will perhaps have an even more "fresh" look for the upcoming epoch.

Did I say epoch?

Oh dear

p.s. Ryan, I've copied the index as is it so far into your first post so that people can see the growing list ^^

As an old person who never had english at school I will be happy if someone looks at the stuff I wrote. I never planed my characters as guides. And I am in no way skilled to add pictures and all this. I had the same problem when I was young and at school: I liked to find solutions but I never understood that I had to write down the answers in a nice and good looking way.

I have a long list of stuff I wanted to add to the wiki:

a graph how armour affects damage and all this

Sadly with 5 kids there is not so much time to keep all articles uptodate. I spend most of my spare time last weeks to make a kid room in our barn which is attached to the house. The oldest will be 15 and she will move into a new and bigger room in the barn at her birthday. Added also a bath room in the barn to split up the morning traffic jam at the bath rooms a bit.

Chattius, I'd be glad to take a look at your guide and pretty it up. Which one is it? I know the dragon mage one you did but any others?

And gogo, you locked the main page with all the guides so could you add the platform/version in parenthesis to the end of the guide link. Or just unlock the page :faerie:

I divided the tags into:

Fallen Angel PC

Ice and Blood

Console

They are just added in parenthesis after the name of the guide. Some guides already had (Console) as in the Ice Elf Guide, and (Ice and Blood) as in loco's pyro, so I kept those as is. A few guides in the temple guardian section and shadow warrior section I left blank as I couln't remember what they were.

aYUP, it's nice work Ryan. You actually could have turned the words Ice and Blood into the link to the Wiki page, if a reader had wanted to go further with that, but what you did has accomplished the most important thing which is organizing.

Ornamental notes, as they say in music, can always come later

Good job

Over last few days, I've added another 14 guides. Ryan, I have updated your first post in this Topic.

We are sorely in need of link putter-inners in the Wiki for all the new guides. Links help new readers to the game connect instantly to explanations of skills and attributes.

If you've got five or ten minutes a day, come on out to the Wiki party!

I *may* have some time this evening, going to go babysitting at the neighbours, and can't play because of that. But updateing the wiki should help get into a working mood for that killcount/random stats program I've been delaying...(And thinking of some features who would be really nice, but really hard to do, if not impossible).

Yee haw! I know how fast you can do edits cuz yer the one who basically did all of the start work on the wiki's bestiary when the game just first got out.

Thanks Arperum

A great piece of work Ryan... :D

If need, I have a knack for editing typo's. This is the end of my abilities however.

I am so far behind when it comes to tech type situations, it's almost embarrasing.

Thought I would offer the help where I know my abilities will be put to their best use, help where I can at least.

Let me know.

I remain, Etherian

Oooh, Etherian we could definitely use you! Most of the work for these guides is basically just highlighting them then choosing the Sacred 2 button in the edits page which creates code. You then copy paste the word you just highlighted into what the wiki gives you and Bling... an instant link to that words exactly named page in the wiki.

For example, Concentration ... you would just highlight that in Wiki then press the Sacred 2 button and you'll see the place in the new code where you copy paste the word Concentration into it.

With so many guides, things like Attributes, skills etc could use a hand of helpingness.

I've updated your permissions Etherian, you can now log into the wiki with same password and name as you use here... try some practice edits which are fun and you can always press preview before submit to check work.

Wiki's are awesomely resillient things... any mistakes can always be rolled back.

Welcome to edit world!

:)

Actually maybe we can open up edit abilities for everyone on this forum. We had shut it down a while ago, and peeps now have to pm an admin to get the permissions.

If innate editors find they can log in right away, this could help.

We're slowly getting there. I was on a roll for awhile and was able to bring over a bunch during the day while at work, but lately it's been so busy.

However, we have another four brought over, the mountain is looking smaller
