Popular Post Virian 27
Hi everyone! It looks like you have not so many people from Poland so here I come. I'm 19 and started playing Sacred in 2007. Sadly, my interest in modding Sacred grown about 2 yrs ago while only a year ago I found PhilRogal videos and thanks to them I could create some skins, but that's all. Still trying to find the way to edit global.res when the link form this site is down. Anyway, my Sacred adventure began when I was visiting my friend. He showed me a game where you kill monsters and what multiplied my positive expression was definitely the fact that he was exploring Tyr-Haddar. Ice elves with lightsabers, what can be more enjoyable for 12 years old guy? Then I've come up with an idea of playing together. Although we didn't do so I fell in love with the game, bought Underworld expansion, started to play multiplayer and entered the polish multiplayer community, majority of them was www.sacred.pl users (biggest site about Sacred in Poland). Then we had dark times of Sacred with servers being shut down and also some quarrel on the forum. Now the situation looks like: "Sacred is a really good game" - this is what actually a lot of people say. However, very little of them plays it and community is almost non-existant, I would say that there are some very small groups that still play Sacred and the number of them is certainly not high. I actually kind of dream of reviving Sacred 1 somehow... However, people on sacred.pl don't seem to enjoy all that cool stuff about modding so maybe I should find another solution. Really great move was creating a guide to setup a server on LAN and play with other guys using Hamachi or Tunngle but it's too little. What you probably see is the fact that I'm writing only about Sacred 1. Well, I got my Sacred 2 copy even installed for quite a long time (2 yrs?) as well as Sacred 2 Gold on my steam acc but haven't played it yet. Something on my to-do list. Well, to be honest it's because I was (or I am) leading a let's play channel on YouTube with my friend and some time ago we decided that "We will present EVERYTHING we know and can about Sacred 1 and then switch to Sacred 2" but yeah... After finishing Ancarian campaign we did very little to even keep our channel alive, not to mention more advanced stuff. 2 Link to comment
gogoblender 3,185
A great intro! U know, when Sacred 2 first started, we were doing some work with the polish community, I think there was a brother/sister team that had put together a magnificent map, kind of like the one we use here in the Wiki, with Google API. It seems like this game happens upon those that are deserving and looking for a great game from years ago, with a tremendous amount of detail, content, and, of course, magic. Happy to see that you've made your way to us, and will probably be a new member of our modding community? Welcome to DarkMatters Virian! gogo Link to comment
Virian 27
It would be great to join your modding community Nevertheless, my knowledge is pretty low to be honest. I've managed to create some skins for chars, weapons, change HUD a bit, switch models but there was not that much work as with for example new patch or even changing game code. However, I'm not gonna give up about opening this global.res file and I hope that I can be somehow useful to anyone here. 1 Link to comment
Dragon Brother 619
Welcome to the forums! Its always great to hear how new members come to us, even this long after Sacred 2 has quietened down and even longer since the original. 1 Link to comment

Silver_fox 398
Welcome to DarkMatters! I don't remember many Sacred 1 modders coming here before, but there are several people around who are into Sacred 2 modding. Also, some time ago a person who participated in development of Sacred 1 fan-made patch made a topic about it in the Programming section of the forum, maybe it would be of interest to you. Still trying to find the way to edit global.res when the link form this site is down. There is a simple but working global.res decoder/encoder for Sacred 1 that can be downloaded from Russian fan-site: http://allsacred.ru/uploads/su.rar This version was made to work with German, English and Russian files, so I don't guarantee that it would work correctly with Polish special characters. But as it operates in Unicode format, there is a chance it would work. The program operates only from console, the commands are: Decoding: Res2Csv -csv <file_in_res_format> Encoding: Res2Csv -res <file_in_csv_format> 1 Link to comment
Virian 27
Hi! Thanks for sharing with me this app! Personallly, I can't even imagine how grateful I am. However, it doesn't work for me for some reason, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I located global.res file in the app directory and ran console in admin mode. Also tried some other variations, maybe still not correct ones and with english demo .res as well. Sorry for posting it here, unfortunately Silver_fox has full mailbox and I couldn't send a PM. EDIT Ok, I found a solution. My computer thinks that I don't have enough permissions as an admin to access other folder than my Documents. Edited July 4, 2014 by Virian Link to comment
Flix 5,162
Hello and welcome. So you're modding Sacred 1? I only know of one or two modding projects for Sacred 1 and neither of them was talked about much here on DarkMatters, so it would be cool to see what you came up with. We still have some ongoing Sacred 2 mods in progress. I found this game much easier to mod, so it's where most of my focus is. Link to comment
Virian 27
Well, as I said everything I did up till now is simple as ****. Of course I can share them with You and I will probably do so Now when I have an access to all text in game I will focus on changing it. I want to change this idealistic world where everyone is so grateful and kind to something we know from for example The Witcher world with all bad language and things like that. Sounds pretty simple, gonna do this in Polish only (sorry, don't know much vulgarisms in English and none in German tho) but simply looking at those masses of text it should take me not that little time. Then I will try to think about using modding stuff that guys from SacredVault left. Maybe some new items? Another use of global.res that comes to my mind is of course changing the story which is a pretty big project... Just reminding, don't expect any revolution like Thorium did. I don't to be under pressure Link to comment
SX255 630
Did you by any chance found a way to change the sound files from sound.pak? I've been looking for a way to replace player voice files for over a year now. Link to comment
Virian 27
Everything I've done was extracting all this sound files from the .pak, but can't find the way to make it readable for the game. Link to comment
