I just loved this!

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters

By Portia Nelson

Chapter I

I walk down the street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I fall in

I am lost . . . I am helpless

It isn’t my fault.

It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter II

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I pretend I don’t see it.

I fall in again.

I can’t believe I am in the same place.

But, it isn’t my fault.

It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter III

I walk down the same street

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I see it is there.

I still fall in . . . it’s a habit.

My eyes are open.

I know where I am.

It is my fault.

I get out immediately.

Chapter IV

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I walk around it.

Chapter V

I walk down another street.

Damn, I'm not that good at this kind of abstract, hidden-meaning texts. >_>

So what's the moral? Sometimes one will have no other choice but to repeat a mistake until finally being able to avoid it?

Ah yup. I know this story pretty well. I'm on chapter 3, lol. Thanx for the preview Anestty. I think I'll skip to chapter 5 once I'm finished with 3. :sigh:

Isn't it amazing how long we take to learn?

This poem is great that way. I was never a fan of poetry when I was a kid cuz I didn't understand it all that much but finally I guess I began to grow up so that my life experiences could/would begin to mirror the stuff that poets always talk about.

lol...loss , suffering, pain...gosh :drinks:

heh, all the stanzas in this poem and only that one at the end wehre our behavioural habits change enough so that we can finally effect a new life-path

yup

sounds like life

:)
