  1. I'm with you on this, 1000%... Gotta wonder just WTH everyone who buys these things is smokin'... It's not just that they're extremely overpriced - especially if you know some of the things about OSX that I do. Like the fact that Apple really would rather not have your business. Yes. That's right. They make it very, very difficult to move your data from a PC environment into their proprietary systems. About a year ago, I had a client call me and tell me he wanted to move his business that's been working on the PC environment for at least 17 years to a Mac only environment. Why? Because he got sick of getting viruses every other week. Mind you, he's been using Windows XP which has quite a few security holes that later version of Windows have done away with for the most part. He even found himself a contact manager that's built on OSX. There was just one big hitch. He could move his fixed field contact info along just fine. But the non-fixed field data - I.e. notes, email, and other things with a text blob (much like these reply windows) were NOT transferable. You see, the import function of the program in question ONLY supports the CSV (Comma Separated Values) format as a source. This makes importing data like notes pretty much impossible. The whole notion of text blobs is that they are a variable length field. One note might be 10 characters long. The next could include an epic like War and Peace. So I called the makers of this program up and asked them WTH was up with this? Turns out they are merely piggybacking onto the SQL database that Apple includes with OSX. And that is a version of Postgres SQL. And the Apple version does NOT support imports of anything other than - you guessed it - CSV files. Meanwhile... Microsoft makes it EXTREMELY easy to move data around from one database format to another. It's a thing bundled into every copy of Windows since I can recall - Open DataBase Connectivity (ODBC). All you need is the proper connector for ODBC (and Microsoft provides those) and a set of instructions to tell the import routine where to put the data - Name to Name, Address to Address, etc... With ODBC, you can move your data from dBase IV to any flavor of SQL you can think of and move it back - without much of any problems... So he had the choice of losing 17 years worth of customer info or sticking with Windows. Guess which one he chose.
  2. Yep. Typical Apple pricing...
  3. It did.. The 1.40 version had a bug which the 1.40 HF version fixed. The installer was fixed so it worked properly, but the uninstaller was not - which is why it broke. The uninstaller is looking for the OLD version of the file, not the new one. The version posted on the very first post on THIS thread should have the latest version of the CM Patch - the hotfix to the hotfix, if you will. Get that one and it should fix the problem.
  4. The newest revision of the CM Patch actually fixes the uninstall problem. If you download the CM Patch again, and only extract the disabler from the archive, overwriting the one from the previous version, it should work properly.
  5. But... But... But... Flying cars and jet packs aren't practical as I takes FAR more energy to keep something aloft than securely on the ground. I've worked with every version of Windows from 3.0 to the latest version and I never found Windows 8 to be any more of a challenge than any other version. TBH, Windows XP was like Swiss cheese when it came to security - the Alpine Lace variety. At the very least, Windows versions since then have taken that aspect a LOT more seriously. I think the Chinese will have something to say about "overpriced" Android devices. I've seen some seriously cheap tablets and phones out there... NASA is a government agency. As such, is there ANYTHING that ANY government does that actually cheaper than what the private sector does? I'm thinking not much, if anything. Why? Because governments tend to have more money to play with when it comes to these sort of things. They have little incentive to keep their budgets within the realm of reason. And lots of companies have done their best to charge exorbitant amounts of money for things - merely because they can. $500 hammers. $800 toilet seats. Normal corporations can't spend that kind of money. They have to be more fiscally responsible. So, by throwing the doors open to companies to build orbital delivery systems, it does go a long way toward making things cheaper. This Cellulon Magic Cube... I've seen something similar to this about 10 years back. And truth be told, the previous incarnation did flop. Why? Because it didn't work very well. This one may be better than the old one. Hopefully, it is.
  6. Just popping in quickly for a few. Kinda busy at the moment so can't hang out too much... BUT.. I did find another easter egg... The Dryad has a class quest that takes place in the jungle port of Na'Fian... The quest giver's name: San Holo... Seems he's after some scrolls that have been lost for some time and needs you to help him find them. They're in the cave north of the port and east of the boat dock (where the TG's class quest also takes him and the same cave where you meet the Spider Queen).. I've popped the relevant details into the wiki and uploaded a picture - but for some reason, can't seem to get the picture to work. If anyone has time, please fix. Cya all later...
  7. Where to grind..? Wherever the baddies are that aren't too far below you. Ideally, you want them to have green or yellow rings around them. White... Not so much. The whole explanation on what Survival Bonus is and how it works can be found here... But, I think the Sacred 1 version is a lot simpler and easier to grok.
  8. Well.. My high school level German is seriously rusty... BUT... I'd guess maybe the title of the video might have something to do with it... Erste Infos zu Sacred 3 translates to First information on Sacred 3. And looking the video up on YouTube - it's well over a year old, posted in Sept 2012... So Gogo.. cool your jets.. lol.. Nothing new here really.
  9. No problem.. I suppose I've also saved myself a bit of extra work by not having to explain or justify how I got to that conclusion..
  10. FWIW, 2.02 is not a patch. That is the original release of Fallen Angel. As for why things changed..? Hard to say - but it was likely found to be a problem and consequently removed.
  11. If you look up Xanthiar on the wiki, you'll see he's weak against ICE damage. So.. I'd recommend: 1.) stocking up on plenty of health pots 2.) socketing ice dmg into your weapons NOTE: Once he's beaten you and killed you off.. It'll be pretty much impossible to kill him. Why? Because you've lost your entire Survival Bonus. I learned this the hard way with my first ever character. At this point going back and trying again is kind of futile - best to go back and grind a bit to build up your survival bonus a bit before trying again.
  12. FWIW... I dunno how you can make a project like that LESS terrible than what it already seems to be. Secondly, German isn't that hard to learn. The basics are pretty much the same as English - with a few variations. Ich bin, du bist, er/sie/es ist = I am, you are, he/she/it is Der Hund und die Katze = the dog and the cat... Ich bin ein Berliner = I am a cream puff. What? you thought it meant something else? Actually, JFK got it wrong. A Berliner is a type of pastry, not that you're from Berlin. A more appropriate translation would be "Ich bin von Berlin" - I am from Berlin. OK... OK..So I'm oversimplifying the task... BIG time.. Needless to say, I'm not so sure how you could contribute much to a project that is, by now, already etched in stone - as far as the concept and general layout goes. At least, you'd think by this point in time, it would already be already well past the point of hashing out concepts and ideas and well on the road to being completed.
  13. Well.. If you think about it, what else can they be? Consider the following: 1.) Ascaron went belly up years ago and the employees took the programming tools and what not with them, leaving Deep Silver unable to do much with the actual game code. Hence, there are only two official patches, both minor, for Ice and Blood from Deep Silver. 2.) The official release of the game onto Steam includes a note recommending the CM Patch to players. Ergo, the patches for the Steam version - which is nothing more than a repackaged version of the game - must be the same patches for the "regular" version.
  14. Yes.. And they (DS) have only themselves to blame. So, yes, we will engage in much mental mast.urbation just for the sake of doing it since we don't have anything better to do.. And we will do a spectacular job of coming up with all manner of wild scenarios. For this IS what we do.. Why? Unless you got the right kind of mad programming skillz, they'll likely shuffle your resume/CV off to the rectangular file. Gee.. Not a surprise. They already missed the golden window for that. For them to have made it, it would have had to have been released in Sept or Oct... That the buzz will be out there, the game will be on store shelves, ready for people to buy it in time for Christmas. Seriously, nobody is even going to try and send in their resume/CV to these guys? Dream job, right here... Btw... Keen's had that ad up since just before it was announced that they would be spearheading the project for DS. The truly disturbing thing about this - they STILL have the ad posted. You'd think after all this time, they would have a FULL team cranking out code like a well oiled machine. There are a couple of reasons why this ad is still posted. 1.) They're losing people left and right and can't hang onto anyone. 2.) Their web guy is a total putz and/or is a lazy slacker who can't be bothered to remove the ad from the web page. 3.) They can't find anyone willing to work on this project. Given the vast amount of negativity, it wouldn't be super surprising. Would YOU personally want to put your name on a project that people will hate?
  15. Actually.. you could multiplayer without having Tungle.. The limitation is that you would be forced to have everyone in the same local network. All Tungle and similar programs do is extend your local network to one that's spread over the internet. The CM Patch is highly recommended. It does fix a lot of niggling little bugs that Ascaron never got around to fixing.
  16. Make that 3 groups.. The 3rd being those who feel the utter silence this past year means that Sacred 3 has been binned and put on indeterminate hold and no release is coming anytime soon. But seriously, Thorin... Can you BLAME Dork Sliver for using the word Sacred in their email...? It got you to open it instead of tossing it. Didn't it? And I'm sure you're not alone in that respect. I'd say it almost guaranteed that anyone getting that email would open it - at least among the Sacred faithful.
  17. Ack.. Sounds like you're gonna be busy for the time being! Cast Iron... To a degree, yes, I am a fan of it. But it does require proper seasoning in order to make it work right. It can be a bit of extra work. The only other issue I have is that my non-cast iron pots and pans have a stay cool handle and I don't normally need a pot holder to manipulate them. Cast iron pans - not so much.
  18. That should be a Lukewarm Swill, with Lumps.. At least, it'd be game specific.
  19. Meh.. GTA3 was OK.. Tho Vice City was better and San Andreas was even better. San An was probably my favorite game until Sacred and Sacred 2 came along.
  20. Well.. you gotta understand something about the differences between Diablo 3 and Sacred 2.. Diablo is produced by Blizzard - a huge mega game company with lots of successful titles under it's corporate belt. As such, Blizzard has bazillions of dollars to spend on advertising, promotion, marketing, etc... Sacred 2 was produced by Ascaron who produced a few games - but wound up going bankrupt. It had little, if any budget for ads, promotion, etc... Blizzard is it's own distribution house. Ascaron needed help in that department and CDV (in the US) and Deep Silver (everywhere else) were chosen (BIG mistake) to represent them. As such, when Ascaron went belly up, CDV didn't get to distribute the Ice and Blood expansion while Deep Silver did. Of course, Deep Silver bought out the franchise. The problem is, the US market didn't get the expansion and as such, unless you were a hard core fan of the game, you had to suffer with the basic game. If you were hard core, you would have shelled out another $40 US for the UK/International version from places like DL Gamer. Console players were also unable to get the Ice and Blood expansion - due to the collapse of Ascaron. Sacred 2 also suffered from other minor issues - like buggy game play in the early versions. Even the Ice and Blood expansions were plagued with bugs. Most of the big whoppers were dealt with - by the tireless work of the CM Patch team.
  21. Hmm. The only effect I know of on NPCs in the CM Patch is that they behave better.. They follow you around instead of running ahead of you and doing their best to get killed. This applies to Mailyn as well as the other nearby NPC who wants you to take her to Orpheus' lair.
  22. the real question - what sort of "spoon" is that referring to? Teaspoon? Tablespoon? Serving Spoon?
  23. The number 3 isn't always a curse.. Lest we forget - Duke Nukem 3D was probably the best of the series... The ending on that one was quite amusing, if a big nasty. Of course, the 4th installment took like 3 centuries (or so it seems) to get done..
  24. Yes... I looked into some.. Most require that I put forth a big pile of money in order to get the books printed. Which I suppose isn't so bad - except funds are kind of tight at the moment.... But I'll look into the link you provided and see what all your friend did.. Well.. The ones in the game would seem to be a bit.. clumsy if you ask me. they're fixed, they don't flap, they can't fold, they're well.. more in the way than anything. Which raises other questions. Like what purpose they really serve... Which brings us to... As far as interstellar travel.. Meh.. not so much. Wings are good for a bird flying thru the air... but there's no air in space. If anything, the wings in Sacred appear to be more like antennae.. Remember, they can contact those orbiting satellites to summon BeeEffGees and the like. Thinking those are more what they're for than anything else... Wolfie, I can't think of many more ways to keep Sacred alive than with what you're doing. We've change the Sacred 2 Fan Art section to Sacred 2 Fan Art and Fiction There's a book a literary creation that a member put up a few years ago along with some painted art as a contribution: This book is Sacred I'll also change the Sacred titles in a few minutes. There will always be home for your work on your Wiki gogo Well.. SOMEONE'S gotta keep the faith alive until Deep Silver gets their act together and puts a proper Sacred 3 on the market! The story is kind of amusing.. Not very Seraphim-like though. Never known a Seraphim to be quite so selfish or into jewels and the like. Its only on DarkMatters.. for now.. As for the male Seraphim.. Hmm.. Great art... BUT... The guy in the picture won't quite work. At least, not what I had in mind. The guy needs to look MUCH more demonic.. Remember, he would have to be more of the embodiment of evil in order to make a Seraphim be so disgusted. Except for the lack of er.. cleavage, that one could almost pass for a female Seraphim...
