This topic originated from the other topic "Experimenting with Hamachi" which has ended but will remain open for continued discussion.

Eventually this post will become a guide for easy step-by-step instruction for multiplay in Sacred Underworld or Sacred 2.

Heya Drake!  I've decided to go with Radmin VPN =>https://www.radmin.com/download/

I haven't had a lot of time recently but I do intend to set up a topic about it.  I'll set up a dedicated gameserver so you can test it out for yourself.  I don't think you need the IP info with Radmin so we'll try without it for starters.  The Radmin IP is set for my gameserver so joining the Radmin network should manage the rest for others to join.

    After installing Radmin, Join Network:

    • Network:darkmatters.org
    • password:sacred

Then load up the game and in Multiplayer Local it's the same name and password as above.  Hopefully all will go smoothly!

  2. Oh boy, this is gonna take a couple days I think.  :heat:   I'm selling/building a pc for someone using my existing:

CPU(i7-4770K)/Motherboard(Asus Maximus VI Impact)/Memory(DDR3 2x8GB 1600) and my previous video card (Radeon HD 7850) in a DEEPCOOL MATREXX 55 ADD-RGB case

At the same time I'm upgrading to:

    CPU(i7-8700)/Motherboard(ASUS ROG Strix Z390-I)/Memory(Corsair LPX DDR4 32GB[2x16GB] 2666MHz C16) and keeping my present GTX 1080 in a Node 202 case.

The challenging part is I need to consolidate nearly 2 decades of data in order to make everything Drive wise more manageable.  Spring cleaning has come early this year, yeesh!

  3. I finally had some time to try out Radmin and it looks like I got it in working order.  Thanks again for your recommendation Azazin!  I like the fact that Radmin doesn't limit the number of allowed players so if all goes well I'll be sticking with Radmin.

I've also been looking into lobby servers.  It never occurred to me until now that we probably have all the needed resources to run an efficient lobby server.  So far I've only come across a few lobby servers out there but the coding lingo associated is quite a lot more advanced than my experience allows me to understand.  Maybe I'll catch on quick.  Alternatively, I could rent a 32 player Hamachi if all else fails.  Might be fun to try and it could be used for Sacred 1 and Sacred 2 simultaneously.  That would be fun!

Should anyone have ideas for lobby servers, I'm all ears.  :dance2:

    Hi

that as a developer of Sacred I have to ask here is amazing. Well, but why?

As part of an article, I ask if there are any active players on freeVPN or other solutions that are still playing Sacred.

What options are currently available via VPN or even other options? Hamachi is not anymore.

So did you find other options?

Heya Frank.  Always nice to see the Old Guard stop by. I'm curious, why is Hamachi no longer an option?  Did Hamachi change their policy in some unappealing way?

I actually asked the developer of TinCat (network lobby library used by Sacred) if he could provide the community with a documentation so we could build our own lobby server and get Sacred back online without need of a VPN service.

Unfortunately he can't provide the documentation for legal reasons but he said it's a very simple design and it would not be hard to reverse engineer it and recreate a lobby server. So if anyone is willing to take up the task, I am sure there are still players enjoying Sacred 1.

A custom lobby server, that would be awesome!

    Hey guys,

if you’re still looking for an alternative to play Sacred online - try Radmin VPN.

I tested it today… it worked great and I’m not an expert for sure ;)

Fantastic testing Azazin.  I'll be sure to try out what you've discovered.  It might be a good fit for our needs.

  5. Heyas!  Thought I'd give this a try and see what happens.  I created an unattended game server through Hamachi with a maximum allowed number of players set to 5 for now.  I tested myself by initiating the game server on my desktop and then I walked down to a local McDonald's had a coffee and connected to the server with my laptop on McD's wifi.  Works flawlessly.

For anyone else that wants to try there's just a couple of steps.

    1. Install Hamachi - Download
    2. Start Hamachi hamachi.JPG
    3. Push power button onoff.JPG in the little Hamachi box
    4. Wait a while and then press Join button hamachion.JPG
    5. Network ID:darkmatters.org
    6. Password:sacredwiki
    7. Start Sacred Gold - should be version 2.28 which is written in the bottom right corner of the game menu screen
    8. Multiplayer
    9. Local Network
    10. Choose Character
    11. At this point you should see my server - darkmatters.org
    12. Click Join
    13. Password:sacredwiki
    14. click Start Game
    15. At this point you should see a loading screen that should not take too long, less than 30 seconds
    16. If all goes well you'll be good to go!

Let me know how it goes.  :)

    EDIT:

I've finished up experimenting with Hamachi and have decided to continue experimenting with Radmin VPN since there are less restrictions in Radmin.  Feel free to discuss Hamachi further if you like.

  6. I think maybe rather than immersed I was a wee bit submerged in the game.  :D  That was a pretty creative grave on the Devs part.  They tried really hard to find interesting things about every player grave to make them extra personal.  Mine was based on a quest I wrote.  Which, now that it's brought up, I think I'll update it to include a video.

  7. Thank you very much guys!  :drinks:  I feel like we're back in steady waters but I'm afraid to look overboard for fear there may be a sea creature lurking below.

For the record though.  We want to be insecure and not secure.  As strange as that sounds, insecure is a good thing.  For now.  Our software isn't set up for the secure SSL feature to be on which was a big part of our troubles recently.  We will eventually, begrudgingly, only because Google is forcing the world to do so.  That said, always be aware that Phishing and Malware sites are also capable of  having SSL and appearing as though they are "secure".

    • Thanks! 1
  8. Ok, so there's a bit of craziness going on with Namecheap support.  Bear with me while I get us securely situated.  It seems Namecheap support is a little over-eager to push buttons and flip switches...  Twice, in different conversations, they turned on a feature that broke the sites.  During which I kinda freaked out on them for doing since the conversations in no way prompted them to do the things they did.  Ugh.  First time they turned on SSL to "joyfully" make our home more secure.  SSL is great but the site has to be prepped before turning stuff like that on.  So I insisted they turn it off, which they did, and then things were ok.  That was a few days ago.  Now SSL is back on and I have no idea why, lol(delirious laughter at this point).  Yesterday, after inquiring about some random errors in a support ticket, a rep flipped on hotlink protection.  During the wee hours while I was asleep.  So....  Yay!  I get to wake up on a Sunday to a fun new puzzle.  :twitch:

*hours pass since I began typing this post*

Ok!  So learned about even more great things Namecheap support has done to make my life more fun.  To be continued!

Oh and thanks guys for pointing out various issues you've noticed.  It helps a lot.  :)

  9. lol, I was totally giving gogo a hard time on that.  Is it slow?  Reeeaaally?  Maybe it's something you ate?

It looks like our hoster has been shuffling us around servers and cheaped out on the CPU cores...  Grr.  We've been in "wait and see" mode since we moved about a month ago.  Not sure if we're sticking with this company much longer...   That said, if you guys are seeing consistently slow loads over periods of days then we definitely want to know about it.   :)

  10. Just discovered that our Hoster posted an announcement on their forum regarding our server...

"We will be doing a short reboot to add more CPU cores to the S5 server tomorrow evening.  It should not take more then 10."

So I guess something has been up for a while.  We shall see once they have added the CPUs late tonight.  I'm guessing they are probably running tests and preparations today.

Just kidding, congrats to our newest mod...

But in all seriousness, if gogo offers you 'special' poutine...run...run as fast as you can (that's how he tricked Schot and chained him up)

    Welcome aboard Hooyaah!

    "pssssst...  send...  help..."  :zipit:

  12. @Knuckles Oh yes.  I remember my first case that went big and came home.  Huge side window with enough blinking lights to give any passersby my window a seizure!   :D  But I'm really loving this minify everything trend.  Plus I'm hoping I'll find a nice way to be able to cart my next system between my room and the tv room for couch gaming.   Been all over sites like newegg you mentioned lately.  Cheers Knuckles!  I'll never forget that amazing insight you gave to me about PSU's in my last topic.  Very important info

@gogoblender Haha, yes gogo.  It's all about the XPS.  I must refrain!

@Dragon Brother I thought about nuc's for a long time.  I really love being able to get in under the hood though.  Can't shake off ALL of my old ways just yet.  :D  Good point about choosing the right size GPU.  The mini itx cases that I'm liking are particularly challenging in that respect.  As well as the PSU.  The two cases I chose in my first post both require SFX PSU's.  Guess I can't keep my ATX PSU...  Another size challenge in mini ITX cases is what fan sizes it allows.  A lot only accommodate 80mm fans.  I'd really prefer 120mm since they are more quiet.  It's what I use now and I never hear a fan.

    @Timotheus Nice MSI!

Funny you mention weird CPU prices.  I noticed that too...  Thought for sure I could improve on my 4th Gen Intel i7 CPU but nope.  Nothing out there right now to tempt me which is why I'm keeping the parts mentioned.  Still running very strong.  Ooops, you said GPU, haha.  GPU is even worse for me.  Yes.  GPU prices are really weird...  I was expecting to be able to find some great stuff at under $300 Canadian but there really isn't.  What's worse is that my Radeon HD 7850 is holding out very well.  I can't run top line new games at highest quality but I did run at highest on the game Ori and The Blind Forest.  Beautiful game though not a demanding one like say Battlefield...  The only card that seemed reasonable in price is the one you have, the 1050 ti.  But it's not a substantial enough performance boost over my 7850 to make me want to buy it.  Maybe after the holidays things will be better?  Or the coming Black Friday sales?  For cases I think my Bitfenix Prodigy is more or less the same as the Nano S you mention.  It's a very practical shape and size but I really want that ultra compact design I'm seeing around lately.  Tiny footprint and great portability.  I even saw recently a case like what I posted in my first post that has a handle built into the top.  Sooooo drool worthy.  Silverstone Milo ML08B.  Barebones like the one you mentioned, Zotac Zbox Magnus, are initially an attractive option but...  No.  I just can't.  Haha.  Something like that absolutely has a great deal of longevity in terms of graphics power.  It could easily last 8 years.  But the rest of the components are a question mark with regards to how technology will change over a long period of time.  Plus...  How do I tinker with that?!  :3lmao:

Thanks for the thoughts guys!  Lot's to think about.  I'm still not even sure which case I want.  Leaning towards the Node 202.  I'll no doubt be picking up some parts when the super sales arrive.  Mwahaha.

  13. Sorry guys!  I've been doing a bit of reading on the support forum and it kinda looks like they've altogether gotten rid of bbcode...  All the bbcode in posts has been converted to html and the bbcodes that I wrote were wiped.  Ugh!  Why couldn't they have converted my bbcodes to the new html buttons code.  Ok, so I think I need to make new buttons to achieve at least one of your dreams Flix, haha.  It's not too bad.  Just need a bit of free time to figure out the new system.

    P.s.

As for the switch I made the other day it was just the pasting functionality that I changed.  I changed it from rich text pasting to plain text pasting for everyone.
