  1. Ah, OK. So you need to talk to the guy before you start the undead quests. I'll try that this time.
  2. A Fistful of Dollars What it cost to get a combo suit with maximum slots For a Few Dollars More What it cost to socket all the runes The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Combos don't cost anymore. You can't put the same CA into the combo more than once. When you take off your combo suit, the levels drop down; you have to keep the gear on to reap the benefit. Man was I disappointed on my first combo foray. Time to rethink the whole concept now. I've searched the wiki, but see no mention of these crucial changes to combos from S1. How do you use your combos?
  3. Has anyone ever successfully completed this quest? I never have noticed when I receive it -- it just shows up in my log book as failed. The picture looks suspiciously like the MultiPlayer start area, with the 3 buildings around the fountain, and a slice of the arena on one side. I went to Wolfe's Lair to read up on it, but she has a "place holder" for the failed quest -- awaiting replacement once it is completed successfully. I am beginning to doubt this is possible.
  4. Last time I visited Phoenix ws in college over spring break, 1974. It was around this time -- perhaps a late Easter that year, I'm not certain. Anyway, we celebrated the first of 100 straight days of 100 degree temps in Phoenix. I was sure glad I was only visiting.
  5. Hardly sounds like woes to me. Having a child is a boon. A lot of work, and time consuming, but hardly something to rue. Congratulations, Coach.
  6. Do not. And from what I've heard, I sure am glad I don't.
  7. I concur with Spyrus. More than 4 Gb won't speed up if only running the 1 app. If you are taking videos with fraps at the same time, though, it could help some. This is just speculation, though. But for sheer ram envy, gogo, you *need* the 8 Gb or more. After all, size does matter. My motherboard only supports 8, so that's all I have.
  8. As I understand it, the qwerty was laid out exactly as it is to slow down typists. The very first typewriters had moving arms, with the letters on the end that struck an ink ribbon against the paper. (Similar in concept to the hammers that piano keys drive.) The keys would get jammed if uou typed too fast. So most of the really common letters were placed near each other, making it difficult to type as fast. As the mechanics improved, Dvorak came along (yes, there is a Mr. Dvorak, but not a Mr. Qwerty) and designed a layout that loaded the stronger fingers more, and balanced the hands as well. Theory says Dvorak should be better. And I guess, according to Scleameth's post, for top end typists, it is. Me, I h & p (hunt and peck), so neither would be better except that I've come to know where the qwerty keys are, approximately.
  9. The green bar Bishop asked about is, I think, the progress toward getting a CA mod. Doesn't that depend upon how many skill points you put into the appropriate skills, I.e. adding skills to Cap Hunter focus makes progress toward modding the CH combat arts. This is different than leveling the CA, which requires reading a rune, socketing a rune, or equipping gear with + to the CA. And it is also different from merely increasing the damage done, which, as Spyrus mentioned, can be accomplished by increasing skills and/or attributes.
  10. I lost a non active bow once when fghting. I accidentally clicked on it and took it out of the slot, but was in such a firefight I figured I would pick it up after I finished. By then itwas gone. Items have a fixed lifetime on the ground, even if you are present.
  11. I'm pretty sure the red wave is the life "flash", telling you life is low. It does not take your life, it lets you know your life is going -- fast. You need better armor or resists to not get hit so hard. And BM melee is one of the toughest plays around. Maybe try a gladiator or a ranged character first.
  12. All the best to you gogo - enjoy the day to its fullest.
  13. No, I'm sure Dobri meant sp and lan - the games you can host on your own machine, so it would probably apply to open net as well. For closed net, the file would be on the server - behind closed doors, so to speak, where you can't change it.
  14. with the 2.40 patch, these are displayed as a new tab in your log book. No more guessing needed for any that have been unlocked. They seem to be cumulative, too -- or else bugged. I started a brand new Dryad in the 40 patch, and retained all my old achievements. They're worth "points" too. Not sure what those do for you, though.
  15. Yep. The tutorial part just shows you how hirelings work. You can let him die and still get others later.
  16. we had a kami farewell the weekend before they shut down the closed servers. For my part, I really don't play MP Sacred/Underworld anymore, just SP. And Sil -- Kami is already alive and well for Sacred 2 -- albeit on the EU servers. But that's where you are, isn't it?
  17. There are hidden traps in the cave floors, too. They killed me a few times until I realized they were there. Just died with no one around. You can see them in the mini map, and with enhanced perception they are more visible, too. Stay toward the coast until you are 4 or 5. And stash stuff in the shared chest. That way you'll have a start on another if you die. For a while I keep a bunch of blue level 1 items so I can be better buffed to begin.
  18. Use the single portal not the ones in the building -- pass between the blacksmith and the merchant (past your chest) and you'll see a single portal. It takes you into Sloeford. You'll be safe in town, and able to do the quests you find there pretty safely. Similar to the Bellevue portal in S1 vs the basement one-way portals. btw, I did the same thing trying to get started. Didn't like the character name "Dryad" - hehe
  19. EVGA has a program for "loaner" products -- ELP they call it. They are currently taking sign ups to try out their version of this card for 2 weeks. Your only cost is to UPS it to the next person on the list. You must sign up in the EVGA community at www.evga.com to be eligible. If you are seriously thinking about it, this is a good way to check it out. They do not guarantee you'll get one, but the chance is better than the zero you have if you don't try.
  20. whadda ya mean almost? Just kidding -- Welcome to the forum flarkitza. I think over time you'll grow to like it even more. Frankly I was quite disappointed at first, having played Sacred/Underworld for a couple years. But it's growing on me fast. Just wait until you get your class mount - they are way cool. Especially how they react to what you are doing - ducking head out of the way when you use a combat art, etc. There is a lot here to enjoy.
  21. OK, physics says the speed of light is a limiting factor. Transmission of data takes time. This part of lag cannot be avoided no matter how sophisticated the equipment you use. Logic says delays caused by the issues this equipment is deigned to alleviate occur on every system in a game. It is my understanding that Sacred 2, and Sacred as well, use TCP as a protocol, in order to keep all players in game synchronized. This means that every packet sent requires an acknowledgment in return. So we have: 1. Delay due to packet preparation and sending. 2. Delay due to transmission time 3. Delay due to reception of packet 4. Delay due to preparation of return packet 5. Delay due to transmission of return packet 6. Delay due to reception and processing of return packet. Of the six, this piece of equipment can only address 2 -- either 1 and 6, or 3 and 4. Unless every player is using a similar piece of equipment, in which case 1, 3, 4 and 6 will be alleviated. No matter how well it does what it says, there will still be significant potential for lag. And I suspect with multi core systems, the effect will not be as noticeable, as the "offloading" from the cpu is probably already taking place on a separate core anyway. Sure, you'll see some improvement from packet prioritization, but I suspect that if you have a serious rig already, you will be disappointed. Unless you PvP online and need every little bit of advantage. Then it just might be enough.
  22. The tutorial damage types quest near Sloeford (actually closer to Twainbrook) always drops a lava chunk. The guard by the bridge tells you the kobolds have a fire weapon and asks you to find out about it. As to Gar'Colossus, he has that massive T-energy shield. I use a ranged attack, so stay on the platform. Dodge rocks he throws or landslides at me, and he really can't hurt me much. Just a long time wearing him down. And when he pounds the ground, he regenerates his shield. At least he doesn't heal, too.
  23. oh no, and here I thought I finally got the lyrics. Cobain was such a mush mouth you couldn't understand him (well I couldn't anyway, and neither could weird al)
  24. The birth of my daughter 28 years ago is still the single most moving moment of my life. What a rush! Congratulations, Dad. And Mom too.
  25. . . . in his melodic, pop style. Shudder. But one good thing came from it -- I finally learned the words.
