OUTRAGEOUS PC MAYHEM!!!

I recently started a thread about my upcoming upgrade to a new graphics card, and I was wondering what'll be the system you will play it on, and what your current specs are if you plan on upgrading.

My specs are the following:

Processor

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420

Motherboard:

ASUS P5VD2-VM

Memory:

2x 1GB DDR2 PC4200

Graphics Card:

Sparkle Nvidia Geforce 8500 GT 256 MB @ 459/400 [Will probably be 'upgraded' to a high range 79xx or 19xx series card]

Harddisk:

500 GB Maxtor SATA II

Monitor:

Samtron 74V

€700 for the system, €100 for the monitor (bought that one via an ebay-like site).

Lets just say mine has a dinosaur pic on it and is currently run off dust bunnies...sometimes they smell a bit burny too *cries*...I really need a new pc!

Yours sounds yummy Timo! Did I mention mine sometimes makes odd noises too? :4rofl:

lol Claire. Is it a sort of snoring sound? :trans:

Mine is:

Intel P4 motherboard

Pentium® 4 2.6 GHz CPU

2xkingston 1GB 800MHz DDR2

Radeon X800 XT Plat 256MB vid card

SB Audigy 2 ZS sound card

Maxtor 80GB DMA/ATA-133 (Ultra) hard drive

Viewsonic G90FB-2 Monitor

So far I'm still able to run games well but then again it's been several months since I've played a new game... I'm holding out till next year before I buy something new. There's some talk about bringing Directx10 into XP so hopefully by the time I'm ready to buy that will be a reality. :P As for what I'd get I really can't say as I've been out of the loop too long to know but I'm definitely getting... SLI! :trans:

You sure you want SLI? I still find it a bit overrated as high-end graphic cards still tend to outperform 2 mid-segment cards in SLI, usually for about the same price (more expensive motherboards, and getting 2 exact same cards).

And Schot,I don't know what board you currently have, and the version of your p4, but I saw a thread on a Dutch tech forum from a guy who had his p4 at 4ghz! And maybe, when you've got enough overclocking options and support for dual core, you might want to try upgrading to a e4400, they can easily outperform that p4 for not a lot of money (they're about €100 here). That 800mhz ddr2 should come in handy for that! Though indeed, graphics should be getting a boost with a new card so maybe it won't be necessary :4rofl:

Hmm, my system at the moment:

Processor:Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)

Motherboard:Some Intel card

RAM:1X 1GB DDR2 533MHz

1X 1GB DDR2 800MHz

Video:WinFast PX6600 TD 256 MB

Audio: Some old Creative sound card (supports 5.1 so that's all I care about)

HD:Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3250624AS 250GB (planning on getting another 250GB or 500GB HD this autumn)

Monitor: Philips 170X6 (17" LCD) (I might buy a 20-22" LCD this autumn and go for dual monitors, who knows)

No other upgrade plans for the moment. :4rofl:

Well.....

My PC is

1.1 Ghz Athlon(classic)

512 MB PC2700

GA-7N400S-L

Asus V7100

On board sound.(had a monster 300 but never could get it to work on this board)

I really need an upgrade, but it's just not in the budget--perhaps next year after taxes....

This setup has been kind to me over the years. It should not play underworld but plays pretty smoothly. My other computer, a Dell pentium 4 running at 2.79 Ghz is sluggish compared to my main pc and locks up if I even try to install sacred on it.

  • 2 weeks later...

My PC:

Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI Premium

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.0GHz

Graphics card: Asus GeForce 7950GX2 1GB GDDR3

Memory: 1GB of RAM (not sure what kind I have, How do I find out ?)

Storage: 2x Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA2

Monitor: Samsung 19" LCD Syncmaster 913N

Logitech cordless keyboard and mouse (Very old)

Onboard sound

The only upgrades I'll make before Sacred 2 comes out is to buy more RAM and a new keyboard and mouse. Possibly a new sound card as well.

You can find out what RAM you have by taking it out :4rofl:

But if you don't want to do that, look at the bios messages of your pc.

Mine shows:

SO-DIMM speed: 533

This means that the ram runs at 533mhz, and the only ram that runs on 533mhz is ddr2. The name for that type of memory with that speed is pc4200. pc5300 is running on 667 mhz, pc6400 runs on 800 mhz, etc.

I bought new pc5300 ram, but it's giving me errors. So I'm back to my old ram for the moment, still figuring out what the Holy Hannah is wrong.

My current PC is really old school.. but when I get the money I'm planning something like this:

No idea what mobo yet..

Dual or quad core intel processor.. around 350-400e max

around 2-3gb ddr2 ram

not sure about graphic card yet.. maybe going whit some nvidia graphic card around 300-350e. Something that uses crossfire that I can update by buying another similar graphic card later.

two 500gb sata hd's

32-36" flatscreen
