  1. Whatever is handy. Black coffee midday, milk, water, but mainly tea because the wife brings me a cup from time to time when she looks in to make sure I'm not dead.
  2. @Loco - I see you mention Diskeeper. I have the new version of this. a) How do you know it is doing it's job? b) In view of what is said about wear & tear on HD is this a good option When I had ME installed I used to defrag every now and then using the built in system, and the visuals were so hypnotic I lost hours watching the thing.
  3. And that super crunching sound when you walk on fresh snow ....
  4. If I understand correctly ther snow came and went between 6am and 3pm. Incredible. You and Chattius remind me not to be too complacent at this time of year. Never seen so much blossom on the apple trees as we have this year, but most years recently we have had a cold snap early May and lost about half the crop. France is perhaps a little different to Germany but country sayings about weather are much the same. But for now ... sunshine, 24°C in the shade, 37°C in the sun, and we BBQ'd.
  5. I think that has just put the old lady next door to Gogo out of business. Nice presentation Dobri. Er ... France is nearer than Canada if you are ever this way ... ?
  6. Sounds like you could set up a French restaurant at your place Arperum, though I find frogs legs a bit over-rated. Tadpoles are fascinating, but the end product ...? My main objection to the things is that they bury themselves in the garden and reappear speared by the fork when I am digging. Also in wet weather here at night they cross the road in large quantities and you have to drive through all these leaping creatures. Nasty.
  7. I remember being riveted by an book on the 30 years war. I even designed a board game to cover the whole thing with dates when people changed allegiance built in to it, but it got so complicated that it was virtually unplayable. I enjoyed drawing out the board for it with the states and their main towns and arranging the start positions and alliances.
  8. What do you think of UWR Knuckles? Do you have such sports where you are? Seems good therapy if you can swim underwater. Chattius makes difficult reading after a meal. I have a feeling he puts his eyeballs in a glass of water by the bed at nights. That eye surgery is frightening. He makes it sound so every-day. And he doesn't appear to wear eye protection on that tandem of his. Why is it called "rugby" Chattius? At first sight it seems to have no ressemblance to rugby.
  9. I feel I am butting into a close group of friends, but I just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I have learnt more about you guys in the last few minutes than in all the previous 4 years. Makes me humble for having had such an easy life. There was a time (3years) when my wife worked in Edinburgh and I was 100 miles away in the NE of England, but at least the family managed to get together every weekend. No fun eh Loco? But apart from that it has been too easy. Never laid up for more than a month, never out of work for more than a few days. You make me ashamed of myself! Stupid ain't it. I think we all worry that Knuckles is pushing his luck, but I get the impression he hasn't much choice. P.S. Don't fret ... Schot is already crazy enough.
  10. I can see that your family transport situation is worth a thread on its own, though many farmers must have similar problems where the kids are allowed to drive freely on your land but not on the highways. Those castles of yours are superb. Thanks for the pic. I thought the aurochs died out in Poland in the 18th century? And the tarpan. How do you re-breed extinct species?
  11. Wow. Impressive stats. We should all get to work on a gadget to give you sight of the ground just in front, but I suppose the "stoker" can give hand signals. I support Furian's request for a fully loaded team pic. It would be something to see a fleet of these coming along the road ..... club outing?
  12. Find a soft drink that really makes smoke taste vomitous. Something like mint, the green 'menthe' we have in France. Take a sip any time you need to. For what it is worth I gave up smoking about 35 years ago. I am 81 and going strong (touch wood). As a matter of interest ... can people actually play Sacred and smoke at the same time? Good luck. Never give up on this one. It is well worth the short term hassle. What are you going to do with the cash you save?
  13. Fantastic. Never seen such a thing so can't help. But Wow! Always wanted a tandem but they are so expensive and nothing like this magnificent model. How heavy/light is the steering to manage? I take it the person on the back steers which I would have thought made control difficult. What controls, other than ejection seat and parachute, does the front passenger have? How tiring is the front pedalling action/position? Gearing? Brakes on all wheels? Not a very helpful comment but I like the idea that the wife would hit the wall first, while I sail over the top. Can you really tour with it? Looks more like a straight line dragster.
  14. You forgot the most important 'K' Djolly goings on All Round the Kitchen
  15. I would say it has to hold you in semi-terrified suspense for a reasonable length of time. Going back to Claire's original post I am not sure that the instant shock of Linda Blair leaping out of the screen would qualify - though it might give you a heart attack. Nosferatu, yes. Possibly Caligari. And a scene in the 30s Ivan the Terrible with its very over exagerated acting, where the assassin lurks down in the courtyard and the B&W screen is suddenly hand-tinted blue. The old B&W films had a head start for atmosphere. But as you say, life itself is scary enough.
  16. How did I miss this thread! Been reading through all your lists, and I obviously stopped going to the cinema before most of you were born. I remember the day, after a match at Murrayfield (Edinburgh) when I noticed the prices had gone up to 50p. We didn't go in, and I have never been since - miserable old skinflint. So my most watched film remains King Kong, the early 30's version which was much better than any of the later more pretentious one. I think I keep going back to it because I have not yet decided whether Faye Wray has any clothes on when she comes up out of the lake after diving off Kong's ledge. Of course if you include TV films and videos .... still the same ... we have it on DVD now .....
  17. This thread seems to keep coming to life as new people spot it ... or even when old people spot it. We never watch horror films, but that doesn't mean that one or two quite harmless films haven't spooked us. I remember as a kid having to leave the cinema during 'The Invisible Man' - couldn't take the tension. And our kid hid behind the sofa when watching 'Ring of Bright Water' - terrified of the otter! It doesn't need to be a horror film to scare some people. The few "horror" films we saw by mistake we found screamingly funny.
  18. One attempt only. Bad for the old blood pressure. 28WPM, 100% accuracy. Dead normal. I did Aesop. Could probably improve now I know what is coming, but not enough to go again. I used to reckon on 35WPM. with at least 4 fingers.
  19. Been on holiday. Not a good one. Even worse back home ... and then ... whammy ... Claire ! Thought you had abandonned us. You missed my birthday you lucky woman! My heart has exploded or imploded or something. Great to see/read you canny lass. Make us a good cuppa hinny, there's a good lass. With senna pods ... P.S. I see you found the chef-smiley Schot cooked up, but the old nook aint what it was. I might just blow up the fire now. PPPPPS 15 May Will someone please post so I can reply (2ce).. I want to see what magic takes place if I ever get to 500 posts. Ooooh the tension and excitement ....
  20. How'd you find this thing Tim? Not being in an inventive frame of mind I tried: "Tim's posts are fun" ........ "Light group" "Tim's threads are fun"...... "Cost" Yeh, well. Sorry about that. I'll try something longer next time! "The rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain." ...54 translations later we get: "Especially spain." almost 4/10, must have gone wrong.
  21. Net Speed: 0 WPM (words/minute) Accuracy: 100% Gross Speed: can't find infinity on my keyboard WPM (words/minute) Did you guess ... I cheat. OK. OK. I'll get round to it. mumble mumble.
  22. You could persuade them to wash under their armpits ...
  23. Why am I always out of circulation when the important events of life come along. Sorry about that Gogo but I am sure you had a great day! I have cancelled next year's spring holiday to avoid the same error next time.
  24. OMG Gogo .. do I see you have changed your avatar yet again!
