  1. The media won't let this one go. Today they say there were a lot of different prescription drugs in the place... and that some of them were used to treat depression. He lost custody of his child when his woman left him (the same one who played his wife in Brokeback Mountain). The life of an actor is very up and down... you're super busy, or you're super not... many actors turn to drugs (smoking, alcohol, prescription, or other) or have them "given" to them... It's a hard life. I read somewhere he liked living in New York and had a regular life in Soho. I'm sad when someone so young ends it all/has his life ended through accident. The roles he recently played might have affected him too. The last few really don't sound very positive. Perhaps these roles preyed on his mind. I thought he was great in Brokeback Mountain... and had already borrowed a friend's tape of "A Knight's Tale". It'll be a sad movie now, regardless of how it was meant to be.
  2. Blacksmith socketing is level 1 (I'm guessing here folks) 'cause then it won't change the level of the item. If you socket a high level item in a socket you can change the minimum level requirements to equip the item. A level 1 socketable will never change the min requirements for an item. re BP level 2: You might be wearing an item that grants "To all combat arts: +1", or something that grants "Bottomless Pit: +1". I found with "An Eye for an Eye" (WE's version of Attack CA) that I equipped something (an amulet) that boosted Attack. And I was very surprised when AEfaE went up! I thought AEfaE was something other than Attack. Instead, the local name for a CA might just be flavour text.
  3. What do I hate the most: Violence against humans. What do I love the most. Well. Sex.
  4. Hi and welcome! I too am slightly older than the average "Dark Matters" member. I've had the privilege of meeting PowerPyx in person at GDC this year. It was nice to see him in person. He was very busy with helping out at the booth. I wanted to help too, but the language barrier was too much. I know only a few words of German. And... almost everyone at GDC spoke (it seemed to me) only German. I hope you enjoy your time here.
  5. Hmm.. Disagree with you or come up new categories you've missed. Lets see. 1) Naturally occuring phenom. Titanic? wasn't based on an iceberg. It was based on the liberation of woman from the upper class society's role for her. The movie was made to evoke tears and to do it over and over and over. It won't appeal to all, but it has WIDE appeal. Such wide appeal that it is (adjusted for inflation) one of the top 3 money making movies of ALL TIME. Gone with the Wind and Star Wars were also in that group IIRC. The lead man Jack (played by Leonardo di Caprio or whatever his name is) did everything he could "right" in the movie--for the woman. It was a powerful performance from both of these actors (she and he)... and it resonated enough to get tons of young teenage girls to travel to the gravesite of the real man that is the basis of Jack's character in the film. Travel there and mourn what would've been an old man they would have had nothing to with had they met him on the street... Me: I saw Titanic in Japan. I went with my brother. I wanted to see a movie in Japan. The theatres there sell more tickets than there are seats. So, we stood. For the whole movie. They also try to empty the theatre after the show...but we just went around and back in again. They were too polite to ask us to see our tickets. And we were guy jin. The second time we saw it we had seats. I had cried a lot in the first screening... but the 2nd had me crying for the panoramic scenes of the various high point places of the ship. They had me from the start. When I got home, I waited until I could buy a used copy from a video store. $15 CDN well spent. Twister: sucked. The Day After Tomorrow (with it's exciting weather and Jake Gylenhaal): aside from these two things, the movie sucked. However, I enjoyed it for these 2 things. I'll never see it again, but hey, a couple of good hours spent. 2) Ex wrestler/fighter lead. These films have action appeal. They're not about good plot, good writing, continuity or believeability. They're about raw action. They're about surprise. They're about thrills. As such, I've really enjoyed a lot of these. Again, most don't have repeatability. For instance, I tried re-watching Indiana Jones (the first one whatever it's called) , but it just isn't as good when you know where it is going. That being said: Rowdy Ronnie Piper in "They Live" (I think that is the title)... a movie about aliens on earth that are controlling the general population of humans... That movie is one I'd happily watch again. It was on TV, so I guess it was a "made for tv movie", but I liked it. A lot. Haven't seen it again... but, hey, I enjoyed it. 3) Films based on computer games, or mainly containing a computer. Yup. They suck. (In the biting kind of way.) All of 'em. 4) Animal is lead character: hmmm. Most suck. But some bite! Jaws scared the bejesus out of me! That one had suspense, interesting characters, believable people's reactions to events, and a shark that never stopped being hungry! Compare to Megaladon: Shark Attack 3: where the only good thing in the movie is John Barrowman. Or the one with the intelligent sharks, (Deep Blue?) Crap. Jurassic Park was good too. Lots of 'saurs. Surprise. Realistic people's responses to unbelievable events... Hmmm. I'm on a roll here. Loved the first and 2nd movies. 3rd one sucked. What about the Roger Rabbit movie? I seem to recall being irritated by this movie, but many others liking it a lot. Lassie. Sounds liike kids crap to me. Now, let's talk animated films: As I recall, just about the only good ones are: Aladdin. And any of the Sindbad ones (the ones with live actors, not animation only.) The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (with Dr. Who's Tom Baker as the EVIL sorceror Sakura!), Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger... One thing my friends and I did once was to watch a really horrible movie on video in the living room and dis it while it played. (Normally in Canada, you watch the film in a darkened room and quietly "enjoy it".) Not possible to "enjoy" the Werewolf film I picked up in Orlando on video for $5---because of cool hologram on the case! Never buy a movie based on a hologram. It should be a rule somewhere.
  6. I would like to destroy undesirable planets. Send more units. And while you're at it, please add an order of the ever sharp ginsu!
  7. I secretly was on the Private Servers right next to the Kami! I had decided I needed to export all my characters. It took hours. Not 'cause I'm terribly slow... but cause I have so many FULL accounts. Wow. I counted... too many to count! All that time I was in a bronze or gold server in private (once in niob!) ... and everything was fine for me. My servers were mostly longstanding... but hey. Minimal activity! Looking in the chest and then exporting will not create too much lag methinks. So, stable was my middle name... for HOURS.
  8. My favourite character is the old mad scientist. He's always coming out with zingers. And Zoidberg is fun too. My fav episode HAS TO BE the one with KIDNAPSTER and the Lucy Liu robot. I"ll love you forever *loud machine voice* PHILIP J. FRY! pause MEMORY DELETED! ==== I just was googling the hypnotoad... and well. Found this. Who'd-a-thunk-it?
  9. The First Rule of Fight Club is to Never Mention Fight Club. So. start both quests. Complete Pure water without taking a sip. But DO pick up the whisky and the antidote. Stop questing. Just stop. Take your whiskey to Alcazaba Noc Draco. Sell. Sell. Sell. And then sell some more. And don't talk about Fight Club. Evah! Thanks Schot!
  10. Put the table cloth back Timo... and put down the plastic knives. Time for you and gogo to go out and play. Off with you now!
  11. What's this about Winter being over? Here, we still have -29 C with a windchill of -39 C! Hmm. I guess your snow (if you HAD any) is gone. Only consolation here is that we heat our homes to ~20 C (in Netherlands when I visited I remember 15 C being INDOOR temp--and a bone chilling damp it was too!)
  12. *open mouth* *insert foot* This Frost-Gets-It-Wrong-Moment was brought to you by the number -28 and the letter C. (the temp this morning).
  13. I tried to emulate the Great Schot... and found no one would buy my whisky. At all! ('Course I ended up starting and completing other quests... which probably poisoned the well.) I'm going to take a wild guess and say: I bet you have to stop doing quests once you a) have started the whisky quest and b) have started the pure water quest and c) collected the pure water (but refused to drink it) Do you pick up the antidote? Or leave it lying there? I obviously did too many things when I tried to replicate Schot's success.
  14. Sadly, the original video link is no longer available. I'll just guess that it was about someone groggily getting out of bed (late?, well, yeah late!) and swilling down some coffee and off he goes. For myself, I'm trying to limit my caffeine intact to only include chocolate that lacks palm oil and hydrogenated oils. Leaves me with European (not Canadian nor U.S.ian chocolate). Giving myself about 7 hours sleep, It takes me about 1/2 hour to get out of bed. With 9 hours sleep, I awake and instantly can pop out of bed... which means for me... 9 hours is the best rest. Like everyone else, I want to take as much of the day as possible... I imagine most people who aren't "morning people" are just people who stay up later than they should... cause, you know... when you you're up and excited (doing the thing YOU want to do) it's hard to go to bed... until you realize the long term effect is to make mornings really really hard. I used to have 2 diurectics (orange juice and diet coke) every morning as my only liquids until lunch. BIG MISTAKE! Now, I have a glass of water before leaving the house for work. Then, a reasonable size orange juice (6 ounces...not the 18 I could drink from the juice I buy at a restaurant (in a glass bottle) on the way to work.) I keep a glass of water by my desk at work... and hey... life is so much better without being super tired... and then pumping myself with caffeine! Another bonus is: though I've drunk more liquid (mostly water) I don't have to keep going to the toilet ALL THE TIME (like every 1/2 hour) AND I also don't crave more Diet Cokes! By the way, the root source a hangover is lack of hydration. If you drink during the evening... make sure you drink a full glass of water before you go to bed... and then you'll have much less of hangover in the morning! So: 1) adequate rest 2) make sure you're hydrated (and NOT drained of water) then life is sooooo much more pleasant!
  15. re: Some people react strongly and inappropriately to how you post things. That is, people are quick to take the wrong idea from what is posted and take offense. Well. It is easier to interact with the written word than it is to do so in person. A lot of the people on the internet are doing it to reach out to others... as an extension of playing single player computer games. Sort of a natural progression. Since this is their first real stride to be indepedent and to connect to others, it is full of mistakes and over-reactions...and hasty decisions. Often people who turn to the 'net for primary social connection are doing so because they have tried in person to do so... and been burned by the people around them... partly, in truth, because they have offended the people they're talking to/interacting with. And they don't know they've done it. Of course, this isn't everybody on the 'net... and people learn and "get over it". But just think of it. A lot of heavy internet users are shy people. They put a LOT of time (and effort) into their computer games... if they put that much effort into reading books about human interaction then they'd be exposed to ideas that would help them get along with others and grow a social network... Another thing I have been told (by a foreigner living in the Netherlands) is that Dutch people tend to be quite blunt. At least in comparison to UK people or people from the U.S. or Canada. (Canadians see themselves as the most polite people on the planet... but I think that honour goes to the Japenese or the Koreans or the Kenyans. (speaking as a Canadian who has been to other countries. I guess most people think they are polite since they are using the rules they learned in their own societies and they live by the rules they learned as kids...so they *must* be polite:)) Blunt people are often considered rude by people who have no additional context. There. Now I've said enough to hang myself. I'm done now.
  16. Hmm. (Yeah, I'm slow). Hmm. I wonder what your state said in your logbook for each of these experiences. I vaguely recall doing a test a long time ago and surviving in similar circumstances... but with SB wiped to 0%. Perhaps surviving a real death leads to SB set to 0? Then, dying with SB at 0 leads to permanent, real death? ===== I based my previous "near death" experiences on Wilbur from SP. Wilbur has a habit of dying---and coming back to life, or getting the burtterflies and coming back to life again. But sometimes, when Wilbur dies, he just flat out dies. Perhaps he starts with a very high SB? Another npc character with high SB is the Dark Elf sorceress near Highmarsh/Mounted Shaddar Rim church area. The Dreamer quest npc. She dies a lot and comes back often...though sometimes she just flat out dies. Reminded me of Wilbur... and this npc is available in UW and online.
  17. I recently realized that when I've lost interest in a character (around level 100)... the time to put them aside has come. They've run out of steam... and leveling becomes a bit of a bore... time to try a new character, in a different class. Then... when the time is good and ready, I come back to the character. And shop. And shop and shop. I'd focussed on "To All Magic Spells: +1" and "To All Combat Arts: +1" for my bronze characters and never considered that Trade at about level 100 yields CA/Spell values at +19 in Platinum as a maximum for each item. Each item. I can do the gogothang of having a level 1 combat art convert into > character level combat art just by shopping for a few hours. That means: I can read one of each CA/spell and convert my character from using any build to any other build! Just by shopping for it! (Skill support will still be needed, but the regens could be managed by RSM/Regen Spells and CA/Spell minimization I suppose). For instance. I needed to test Wolf Companion for a high level Vampiress. I hadn't been using the CA at all for my level 107 Vampiress. So, I read a rune, and then started shopping. After about an hour of shopping I was able to boost that CA to level 95 (which put the wolf level over 300 at night, and 279 during the day). Imagine. A new CA brought up to (and beyond) the level needed for Platinum by a few hours of shopping. And this is without shopping for rings/amulets at all... just armour and weapons! At Platinum level, I'm sure there are significant socketables and around to really make the levels go through the roof! ==--------------------------------edit---------------------------------== 2008-Mar-03 I was asked by PM what level Trade my Vampiress has. She is char level 107. I suspect, (but don't know 'cause I haven't played her in a while) that her Trade level is 107 invested, with probably almost 0 boost from equipment. I haven't focussed on MF, so don't have the necessary +X skills uniques, nor many of the +X all skill items that come from sets.
  18. There is a lot of content in the books and scrolls of Ancaria. Also, Sacred is very much a group effort. A huge number of people were involved. Everytime someone came up with an idea, they would hurry over to the lead developer...and often he'd say: "Put it in! Put it in!" So. Just keep in mind: many cooks were involved in this stew!
  19. My favourite movie of all time remains "Star Wars" Episode IV. Possibly subtitled "A New Hope" even at first release time. I saw this 7 times in the theatres between 1977 and 1978. 7 times. The film was held over for an unbelievable 6 months at the theatre in the small town where I lived in the middle of no where. Full houses almost every screening! The theatre owners probably could retire on what they made that year alone! Apparently Lucas made this film with the 15 minute climax formula based on the old serial films. He was young and worked up the Western and serials together to make a Science Fiction masterpiece. My fav of all time: Star Wars Episode IV.
  20. Hi Stubbie! re: Sacred and the 22" screen: Ever consider running Sacred in Window mode (ie, not full screen)? I run Sacred on my 19" and 17" monitors in window mode... the game is centered and looks great. Have fun whatever you decide to do! ("I will think over time" )
  21. I *suspect* that the choice of light or dark will come in how you handle quests. They've offered evil and good quests in S1, and expect you "score" on these will indicate which path you took... and will affect how your toon looks (skin tone, hair colour, eye colour). These are my guesses and I'm sticking to them!
  22. So, let me understand this. From watching your video... the innkeeper wants to buy the barrel for 6000 gp... and then doesn't take possession? So you can keep selling him the same barrell over and over again:)!! Well. I think you've found a bug. Sacred isn't likely to get patched now. A fast way to make gold in bronze indeed!
  23. As always, Save often, save with different descriptions so you can tell where you were in teh story arc, and what level your char is, and what difficulty level has been unlocked. So. The short answer is to go back to before you started the Elements of Ancaria, and then do them in order. If you're out of order, you've created an unknown quest state and there is no recovery...save export and start again, or start from a non-corrupted save. Good luck!
  24. I found that the trigger is the piece of wood on Haven Isle right near the red line Schot drew in the Sacred Wiki. If my character's foot touch the log, I got a chance of a spawn (or two!). My fireballing-BM sent a fireball over the direction of the log...and ran to keep up with it... That time, he got two items spawned! Also, I only ever got 1 items spawned per game per trigger (I have two computers with unique accounts...so I can have up to two chars on the same game). I updated the wiki. Cheers and HNY everyone!
