  1. The question popped up when our second now14 year old daughter asked how a new player would best start. She was used to the family bargainer chain, the family smith and full common chests when she started playing sacred2. Most of the characters we played were builds to test out what is possible: unarmed characters without x% life leech, maximum ca-range characters, .... All this are character which need carefully selected equipment. She never played a character which had to live from just what it finds. So she started a new character while being at hospital for 2 weeks. She played a seraphim from scratch: no common chest, no bargainer chain, no family smith.... She is now level 105 in niob and she said she did the character so that every 20-30 levels the playstyle would be different. Attached a screenshot of this character after finishing silver at level 41 without deaths. She said it would be nice if there would be a list with the character guides which would indicate how good a guide is replayable by a new player. From my 'guides': Sohei:possible, RegPerHit equipment and a weapon with x% lifeleech should be possible to be found while still in silver. Melee-elf: possible: same as sohei Kungfu Dryads: Detheya set for x% life leech needed! Hardcore-single aspect DM Mentalist: if not hardcore, no special equipment needed, using a weapon with reg per hit in beginning. The full ca-range later on was needed to level with a decent speed at level 170+ So see this thread to post which guides you would consider newbie friendly, as for being a first character.
  2. I had a bit of searching: I will buy one with a graphic card which can be switched on on demand and if not needed the mainboard one will do the minor graphic work. So having the number cruncher (graphic card) only active if maths are needed: Image processing and games. While searching for the one PC which perfectly fits: I bought 5 (better prices) Raspberries for controlling. 2 are for a collegue and I have still 3. So these cheap computers stay in place. One is permanently at my wood working machine, another is currently tested to play with LEGO mindcraft elements for a school project I am more and more the opinion that I should have kept all 5: my collegue uses one of his ones as a fully programmable internet radio receiver.
  3. The combat art mastery description is confusing: it is not the 20% regeneration time as normal , but rather that the 20% are applied after all other normal reg-time calculations. It seems really be a move of the hands.
  4. Don't know for your place: roasted quinces with sheep done in a tajine is often served at moroccan or tunesian restaurants here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tajine The recipes are quite similiar: venison instead lamb, Römertopf (roman clay pot) instead tajine, ... http://moroccanfood.about.com/od/beeflambandgoatrecipes/r/quince_tagine.htm Most of the clay pot recipes are as old as the roman legions being west of the rhine.
  5. Our 14 years old was used to have a full chest and the family smith when playing Sacred2. While at hospital she decided to do a character on a fresh install, ice and blood and CM-patch. It was a Seraphim which looked different to all guides. She said she just adapted the character to the stuff she was finding: At the start she modified combat alert in a defensive way, not knowing which weapon types she will be finding. Then the light buff was added to hunt undeads and t-energy beasts. One t-energy orc champion near the octopus dropped a yellow sword. no sockets and useless modifiers except one - x% life leech. This was the point she added technic lore and put 9 points into it to modify archangels sword with 2 explosions for growd control. Then she was boosting just combat discipline and concentration. She wanted the energy shield when approaching platinum (concentration mastery) and combat discipline because it added damage to all 3 aspects. The reg time was lowered by reg per hit items. .... She did a little diary and it was funny how different a first character is to a character which is started with a chain of bargainers and a niob smith.
  6. Yes I don't use concentration if I use just 1 buff. Combat discipline is a bit more complicated. For my mages(casters) it is a certain yes yes yes yes. For a fighter: bargaining or alchemy might be better. So why this yes yes yes for a caster: I like to use 100% halve regeneration time (starting gold diff) on my casters. The base damage for a caster comes from a high ca-level. So I read in every rune. This normally shoots regeneration times into real big heights. To counter this I use halve regeneration time. So instead 100% reg time it is only 50%. So the regeneration clock starts at 50%. Now we add combat disciplin: If the spell is in a combination the clock will start around 1 o clock. With Mastery it is already 2. Half regeneration time will start at 6. So what if we have half regeneration time and combat discipline mastery? The clock adds 6+2 is 8. The reg time clock starts around 8. So I have just one third of the normal reg time. But a warning: cool down only starts when all regen is done, master regeneration system and more spells in a combination are more complicated. But with a bit of experimenting you should be able to reproduce the trick. There are two ways to reduce reg time: Speeding the clock: x% reg time items, combat art focus, stamina, ... Moving the hands of the clock: chance for halve regeneratiin time, combat discipline and combat discipline mastery and Regeneration per Hit Is this in the Wiki already?
  7. Hmmm. You ever tried quinces? Jamie Oliver: http://www.jamieoliver.com/magazine/recipes-view.php?title=beef-aamp-quince-stew
  8. Sunday we will have saddle of venison with slices of quinces in a clay pot. Oranges aren't local here so I do the traditional quinces and pears. The poor thing had two legs smashed after a truck hit it yesterday.
  9. Some sets unlock more modifiers or slots at higher levels, bronze set item may have one socket while it are two at gold... Sets are useful for set bonuses like x% lifeleech, +x% ca-range, .... Stuff you won't find on yellows
  10. After some rainy days: sun. And with the sun noises in the sky. Minutes later thousands cranes flying south. Took a break in garden work and called at the house for the kids to watch them.
  11. Since I am the mayor (civic leader?) of our small 127 people village I was invited to the district meeting yesterday evening. The main discussion was about the outdated water supply in most of the villages (our house is even not connected to one, we have a fountain). The old water pipes are concrete and big in diametre. So sediments can settle on the inside. Modern pipes are less in diametre, metal, ... Less sediments and less risc of bacteria. Sounds all good, but then I asked a stupid(?) question: what is the waterflow per minute in such a pipe and I was told 800litres per minute. Given that each of our firefighter pumps do 1000-1200l a minute it was obvious that there would be a problem... Never ask stupid questions.... You will be the one who is chosen to find a solution for firefighters and calculating the costs.... And doing it before the 2014 household is at district parliament in mid november. My first idea was a modern modular concept with higher costs first but less in the longrun. Placing 10000l containers with water at important places and buy 3-4 more container trucks. We have one already at our department: and containers for chemical accidents, floods (most used), first aid station,... So if there is a concert in a 2000 people tent we just bring the first aid container for the duration of the concert and have the truck free for other uses. Same for floods: we leave the container with the 8 pumps and the power unit at a central place and drive the truck away for another container, mainly an empty container to pump dirty and oily waste water in. Now we seem to need: some containers with water and trucks for them or cisterns or water reservoirs, higher number than containers because they are not mobile or a fleet of water tankers trucks, which only have a single use and eat maintainance and room at a department or stay at the old big diametre water pipes, but 80% of the pipes had to be replaced anyway and bigger diametre new ones are more expensive and need more maintainanc, add the bigger health risc or someone comes with a clever solution I have not in my mind yet. Big towns have lot of money, paid firefighters, ... Anyone knowing a good solution for smaller countryside villages?
  12. There will be a vinyl party at my old school this weekend. Everyone has to bring some old LP (vinyl) for the music. No CD's or tapes allowed. Searched a bit and found: The Nits: Walking on the Dutch Mountains It seems people in the netherlands are speaking of hills as soon their cows have dry feet and mountains as soons a house has a second floor? I was born in a valley of bricks Where the river runs high above the rooftops. I was waiting for the cars coming home late at night - From the Dutch mountains. I was standing in a valley of rock Up to my belly in an early fog. I was looking for the road to a green painted house - In the Dutch mountains. In the Dutch mountains - mountains -. I met a woman in a valley of stone She was painting roses on the walls of her hame. And the moon is a coin with the head of the queen - Of the Dutch mountains; in the Dutch mountains. I lost a button of my shirt today It fell on the ground and it was rolling away. Like a trail leading me back to the Dutch mountains To the Dutch mountains, mountains I met a miller on the back of a cow He was looking for the wind but he didn't know how. I said: "Follow the cloud that looks like a sheep" In the Dutch mountains in the Dutch mountains In the Dutch mountains in the Dutch mountains. Mountains mountains mountains mountains mountains Buildings buildings buildings buildings mountains
  13. Stormy weather which blowed a lot of leaves on the streets yesterday. -3Celcius at 6am so the leaves were frozen and created an unpredictable mass on the street. So I said to my daughter that I will bring her to school in town instead doing it with her bicycle. I am used to stop 500metres away from school so I didn't have to pass the traffic jam their twice on my way to work. I was totally puzzled that the moment she left the car a garage opened. A mother of a classmate asked if she should drive my daughter together with her son to school. My daughter said the boy is totally healthy... 500metres with a car,.... it was cold but sun started to appear.... The mother has to open the garage, drive through the traffic jam twice, close the garage, ... Alone the garage opening should be 100m walk, the preparing to drive with key searching and such another 100m, driving in a traffic jam is by no means quicker than walking, ... Only kid I heard ... the boy is 14 and not 4.
  14. I excluded reading as being a hobby because: in the few time I have I try to read foreign books in their original languages to train my language skills. My brother lives 400metres away from europes biggest library of Fantasy and SciFi books, more than 40000books. Each visit at his place and my daughter takes 10 books for 4 weeks. Well she has like 3 hours in bus and train each day. Currently she is reading the Gem-Trology from the german author Kerstin Gier: Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue, Emerald Green. http://us.macmillan.com/rubyred/KerstinGier She says it is very good so far, reading near the end of the second book.
  15. Sad sad sad for you. no vitamin pills... A former classmate runs a small restaurant specialized in our barbaric local cuisine. At a class reunion this summer he did: a sorbet from red beetroots (added a bit blood orange juice) Small coins cut with a glass from sour dough bread. The coins roasted. Then layed with Sauerkraut, Schmand (or creme fraiche) onions, caraway, cheese. some salt and pepper and the coins and the mix baken again till the cheese melts. The sorbet served as balls on the still warm coins. It tasted way better than it reads I fear.
  16. If I define hobby as something which I doesn''t need to dobut like to do it: Cooking, hunting, family has tobe excluded from being a hobby.... Gliding probably, I did it more or less regilary since I was 16, nearly 3 decades. But when my best friend who used to fly with me for the same time died on cancer it wasn't the same anymore. The song is still in my signature. Currently learning our second daughter to fly. Being in gliding club for free, becausemy grandpa was a founding member and repsired the machines till he died. Even the club has competetion mqchines, I like the old ASK 13 best. Big cabin for a allround look, very tolerant on mistakes when teaching, nice slow speed gliding possible when doing sight seeing. But with 5 kids, it are only 30 hours this year by now.
  17. How many sorts do they have? They use to be from eggsize to pumpkin size. And there areas here which carve turnips like others do pumpkins. You know: halloween approaching, start carving. For turnips you hole the inside and carve just the red outer skin, so no holes in the images. The top is lifted with some toohpicks normally to let exygen for the tea light in. Depending on the sort you use: the stripes carved away from the inside can be used for the sausage salade some posts ago. We aren't producing any waste, aren't we A ceramic tealight burner to place the turnip outside. It is fed with old remains from candles ,wax drops, ... So even no aluminium cups from the tea light as waste.
  18. Anyone of you still use citizen-band radio? I keep ours because in a worst case: a storm may disable the only antenna for mobile phones which coveres our place. Triangulating the location of a mobile phone is also not possible easily because of the single antenna. So I have one in the car and when I walk with the dogs.
  19. I did a spear build once I played without a battery. As soon you had a battery and I double-clicked on a target the TG shot from a distance instead of running to it. So all the spears hit the enpty air. Later I modified the maximum shooting distance of the laser arm to a distance which was in the radius of the spear. It are so minor things which annoy. Or having the source warden area attacks hit several screens. I hoped that the area effect would stop where I click with the mouse... So I could at least the the loot on the screen without searching a whole area.
  20. Muckefrak is german for coffee substitute. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_substitute Many french presses fail when trying them with substitutes, the substitutes not passing the filters. Lot of people here are used to substitutes and my wife still uses normal filter papers when preparing some in her praxis for the mainly old patients drinking them. Its funny that some search engines seem to think I typo'd a certain insult when typing Muckefrak, do you mean CENSORED...
  21. A failed character is a character which doesn't do what it was planned for. My friend wasn't needling the elf fire spells. So no teamplay. It is like when my mother gives me 8000euro to buy a nice second hand car for her and I buy a Porsche Boxster. The Boxster may be way better than another used car at the same price: faster, better brakes, more agile, has the room she needs as a single person, ... But because it is too low for entering after her hip surgery it would be a failure. For solo playing: My dragon mage Sohei had a better kill rate because his combat art radius was just the size of the radius of the q-pressed loot. So kill, loot and run to next - no searching. I turn of sound at the temple guardian: I am always angry when sets and uniques drop where I can't find them. So better don't know they dropped.
  22. My daughter did a little video how her level 139 max cA-Range meteor build can be used for growd control. Each Meteor is doing 20000 damage, 1.1s reg time, 21 meteors per cast. The character has damage lore at mastery so 1-2 hits are often enough for a normal target. http://darkmatters.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/334-booteswmv/ Currently she tries to find a way to quickly change the radius: small for champions and bosses and large for groups. I won't post the maths test I did with her: calculating hit chances at a bigger radius, different sizes of enemies, ... I had this maths she needs for school in mind when I did the challenge with the character.
  23. File Name: Bootes.WMV File Submitter: chattius File Submitted: 10 Oct 2013 File Category: Ice & Blood High Elf Builds Showing a level 139 high elf playing the CM-patch. Full CA-Range enhancing equipment is used. This video is from a test if a meteor only build has area control. Without any ca-range equip the meteors are nice boss killers. 25. Normally boredom starts around level 150 with a character who never died. At 150 there is the next decrease in the experience curve coded into the game. So you need way more enemies to kill (or repeat doing high difficulty quests). The sacredwiki page about experience: http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php/Sacred_2:Experience Around this level it happens that the enemies are close to theor level caps given you have max survival bonus. So the enemies start to stay at their level while your character still climbs. So the games becomes easier and easier at this points. But this is just my opinion. There are mods to raise the level cap for enemies, but then you reach a point where all the stuff you find is too high for you to use it. Level caps for enemies; http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php/Sacred_2:Enemy_Levels I normally stop a character who isn't a bargainer or smith when I finished niob main quest and did all the quests which have bosses, around level 130 normally.
