Guild Wars 2 - Beta Weekend July 20-22 on Gate of Madness server

I think maybe we should all level one and take out a team of Ele's to demolish the world hehe

I for one know imma definitely have to level me a Ranger, Mes, Ele and a Necro.

I didn't get to play with the Elementalist during the beta weekends, but it really looked fun. And the team of Ele's idea sounds great!

I really liked the necro during this last beta weekend. There's so many possibilities with this profession, it's a good support.

I spent my only beta weekend playing a Ranger. Flipping loved her! Watching Lujate playing a Elementalist was a lot of fun. A group of 4 (that is the limit for a group right?) of them burning their way thru the countryside would be a awesome sight to see! Great idea there Kiyeri! Or maybe I will start calling you K. :D

Elementalist:

The ele was the last profession that I really wanted to try. Starting out with a scepter, I had to struggle hard not to retreat to the comfort and safety of a Mesmer. Once I had the money to buy a staff, things took off. The staff ele turned out to be my second favorite class, narrowly beating out the great sword Guardian. Unlocking all the skills for a single weapon takes a long time, particularly the water attunement for staff. I was originally intending to focus on water, which has two Area of Effect heals, but it always seemed we needed the damage from fire more. In hindsight, I probably should have picked a third attunement to use. That way I could switch from fire to water for the healing and then to something else while waiting for the cool down on fire. It seems to me that every profession has peculiarities that require a certain dedication to learn.

While it seemed to take forever I enabled all the skills with all the weapons an elementalist can use. There are some interesting effects there and several ways that the play style can change if you want to go that way.

You unlocked all 48 terrestrial weapon skills? That is definitely the best way to go.

I took the shortcut approach. I checked the GW2 wiki and read the weapon descriptions. For me, the staff just sounded like the Ele I had in mind.

You can have a party of up to 5, but there is nothing stopping us from running two or more parties together.

The siimple idea of 15 or maybe 20 Elementalist's cruising thru the game together makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up just a little. Only one word to describe it.... Legendary!

We will have to get a squad of Elementalist raging through the world. :woot:

Had a blast running around with everyone this BWE, even if I had a little trouble getting used to the new melee system with my small guardian :D Favorite race hands down is Asura, followed closely by Charr. Probably gonna make all my characters into them :P Favorite class was the guardian, but for release the classes I'm most interested in playing are Engineer, Theif, Ranger, and Elementalist. Only two classes that didn't really jive with my style were the necro and mesmer, something just didn't connect. But can't wait till August 25th :bounce:

Didn't I read somewhere we can have like parties of 5 grouped together?

...

There are squads that allow a large number of people to group together under a squad leader. AFAIK, they are primarily intended for WvW but do still work in PvE. I had ideas of grouping multiple parties together in a squad. To be a squad leader, you have to buy a commander book, which is bound to a single character. In BWE1 & 2, the book was 3gp. In BWE3, they jacked the price to 100gp. That pretty much dashed any ideas I had about doing much with squads.

Here is my first video from BWE3. I normally try and do them in chronological order, but for me this was the crowning event for the weekend, so I am doing it first. This spider had beaten us twice. The first time, I think it killed us all. The second time we had to retreat and leave behind our dead. More important to me than the simple fact that we finally won, was how we won. We coordinated, formed a plan and executed it. We took the first small step towards being a organized force. Enjoy!

AHHHH so that's what a squad is....DOH, silly me the light just went on that this was what you all were talking about before. Imma bit slo at times. That is an incredible jack up in price. I'm guessing that the powers that be don't think its necessary for PvE. Maybe we can all work together to afford one or two for key people in the guild that will be organizing events and runs.

Spider was fun, fun spider FUN! FUN! FUN! (even if they are incredibly creepy HATE spiders

Yep, the commander icon is primarily intended for WvW, where it is jokingly referred to as the "pug light" since it tends to attract large numbers of non affiliated players. There was concern in the community that at 3gp, a large number of players would buy the commander icon solely for the "look at me" effect and there would be so many icons on the map as to make them all worthless. I think the 100gp price tag should take care of that. Also, I heard an unsubstantiated report yesterday that there is a limit of 10 commander icons on any one map.

At 100gp, a commander icon for FDM would be quite an investment. I guess the good thing about the high price is that we will have plenty of time to think about it.

I didn't think you would start with the best part of the BWE :BlobRed:

Yea this fight showed how a group should coordinate and act while in a fight with this kind of champion. This kind of fight will prepare us well for even bigger enemies.

I just could not help myself, I like that piece so much.

There was a question over the weekend about a bar on the UI, and I think this video shows that bar. I believe it is showing the casting time, during which you can be interrupted.

It is indeed showing the casting time, and I think it works exactly the same as GW1.

ahhhh, yes that was the bar I was talking about, only mine was about 1/2 inch thick and has an additional red bar at the bottom of it sometimes... maybe it has something to do with the timing to complete a combo as well or something.

As far as combo's go.. I could never set one off on purpose, but I did do a lot of them as it reported it on my screen

Edit but I was a ranger and therefore not casting... so maybe for me it was the combo thingy

I did not see anything exactly like that, but that does sound like something I saw on a Warrior video.

This short little video shows a couple of Elementalist spell effects.

I'm also starting to share my videos with a big fight we had :

We were in the swamps, fighting a huge Veteran Drake which was 10 levels above mine. The fight was tough, but we managed to defeat it with the help of other players. And we then we could reach the skillpoint underwater.

Notice how the music matches what's happening on the screen. I kind of like how it all matches together.

And earlier, we got to escort a worker to another location. I never thought we would be so many players to escort a simple worker!

Oh and that background noise is Kiyeri's laptop.

I'll share more of my footage in a later post.

Lol, and I can STILL see my tiny Asura jumping above the pack :4rofl:

I think this fight against ettins was the longest engagement we were involved in during BWE3. You will see brown hearts pop up with the word "Burning". Those are when other players combo through one of my fire Area of Effect skills.

I think in this video, Flooxim set the record for the weekend for the largest level discrepancy. Some of the ettins were more than 4 times his level, and the boss was 5 times.

Nice videos once again guys!

That first video is where some passerby called us "NOOBS".

Unless just a trolling remark, I really can't see how that person would be such a pro in the game already since it's not even released yet! Dunno why people play if their only intent is to throw insults... I mean honestly, why?

I think there was something wrong with this player, because a few minutes before, Wygram & I were doing an event where we had to hold our fire and shoot targets when the NPC told us to do so, and this player kept missing his shots, and he kept swearing at the NPC in front of everyone.

I am glad to say that was the only unfriendly person I encountered during all three BWE's.

Yeah, 99.99% of the people wanted to work with you. I think this is a result of there not having a kill steals in the game. Does not matter if 1 or 12 folks take part in the kill you all get the experience. Also you get experience for reviving you fellow players whether you are playing with them or not.

Really a nice feeling overall.
