Absolutely adored the Umbrella Academy... one of my favorite views this season. Lots of everything we love, and the writing is stellar. That ending...argh... give us more Netflix!! gogo 1 Link to comment

I woke up this morning with a slew of reviews showing up on my news feed...what a roller coaster of reading! Course the name Motley Crue is familiar but I never really followed "hair metal' and so a lot of this has been fun to read about today... I usually find The Rolling Stone's writing half-decent...but this one got me laughing... https://tv.avclub.com/motley-crue-biopic-the-dirt-makes-even-the-viewer-feel-1833137936 Gonna make some time... usually rock biopics are not my thing, but this looks like some great viewing! gogo Link to comment
gogoblender 3,297 Share Posted March 23, 2019 And... well after much coaxing from my brother this last week, last night there was some time and we settled into watch the first two espisodes of Netflix's new (lol or relatively new) series. We've only watched the first two...but that first was enough to slam me out of a week-long accumulated torpor from work and draw me in unrepentantly. The violence, the violence, and...oh, the violence... Not saying this is a bad thing, but it kind of caught me off guard. Its been awhile since I've really been able to settle into some animated sci fi and I think I was just giddy with delight that I got such a charge out of this first story out of the 18. We only saw two, but that battle royale of the first was enough to make this series much anticipated viewing for me this week as we settle in, and I must say I actually loved the twist/spooky ending of the second... Anyone here into all those old Ray Bradbury short stories from years ago? settle in folks, this one's a charm gogo Link to comment

Gilberticus 374 Popular Post Share Posted July 16, 2019 I've never seen the show, but I've seen things that I think are similar. I don't mean to be sanctimonious, but if I were gay, I'd be offended by crap like that. Homosexuals aren't mystical, mythical creatures that we need to capture and analyze: they're people, just like any other person. Besides being married to a woman, how is my life any different than any gay man's on the planet? I don't have to deal with the hate of homophobia in my life that some individuals deal with, and I don't think I'll ever truly understand what it's like unless I faced that myself. But besides that area, how are my hopes, dreams, aspirations, inspirations, frustrations any different than anyone else's? One of my gay friends told me "you don't have an aspect of your life that you have to keep secret, like it's some sort of dirty, vile taboo. That's the difference." I don't have a secret? A secret that some don't understand even if I explained it? I sure as hell do, just not the SAME secret. It's not the same thing, but there are similarities. Let me tell ya, society as a whole doesn't exactly accept former adult entertainers with open arms. My only saving aspect in that was the type of adult entertainment I was in kept my face and most of my distinguishable features (like tattoos) covered. I was over at a friend's house, in their linen closet. I'm not a snoop; all I did was touch the shelf and it collapsed. Hidden in the back was a stack of particular DVDs, some of them featured me. I tried to fix the shelf, but the wood had split in areas. I swear that I have the anti-Midas touch sometimes. I could have just thrown the towels back in the closet, but I didn't; I told him the shelf broke. He looked embarrassed. I could have made things very awkward by telling him that I starred in his collection, but why complicate things even further? All I said was that I didn't judge him, because I used to be an adult entertainer. The rest of the day was awkward and I never heard from him again. Not the same as "coming out", not even along the same lines, but there are similarities. Anyway, I've seen some of those shows, and they treat homosexuals like they're a recently discovered aborigine tribe, like you're watching a program on National Geographic, with that one host (damn, I can't remember his name) hiding in the bushes whispering to the camera "here, we see the local gay man as he goes about his day. Look at his diet, so similar to ours. Here, you see him preparing to conduct an elaborate tribal mating dance.......". Pardon me, but eff that. We're all human, all subject to the human experience. All of our experiences are slightly differently flavored, but they're all equal. 2 Link to comment
