We have seen Tomi's and Telari"s artwork posted so I was wondering where are the poets and song writers?

To start I shall give you one of my poems. Feel free to critique.

The Sleeping Giant

it lies there

at one time it was smaller

and weaker

if you had walked on it's back

in it's youth

it would have opened up

and swallowed you whole

Now that it has grown

bigger and stronger

it is now safer

to travel across it's back

still you know you must not wake it

as you stride across it's back

you see the footprints

of people

and the tracks

of animals

who have walked this way before

and you feel even safer

as you walk

then you stop

you hear a low growl

a deep thumping

so deep

you can't hear it with your ears

the sound travels up through

your feet

it is the giant

stretching in the noonday sun

just as a cat would

it stretches

pushes against itself

it still sleeps

you see the crack in the ice

of the lake on which you stand

I really like this Lord!

I think more than anything it's the pacing I got a kick out of...I really could feel like I was being led down a story. I get the feeling of a narrator telling stories to children. To keep them safe, and to let them know about how big the world is. It's dangerous out there, and anything we can share with others about what to watch out for has value.

I'm jealous of your kids...they must have had the best bed time stories.

And...lol, you must have a waiting line waiting to get in on your weekend d and d games

Here is a poem I wrote and gave to my Dad. It has even more meaning to me now.

To My Dad

His smile a ray of sunshine,

his voice a song of joy,

a source of gentle guidance

for a treasured girl or boy.

His Back can be a

strong and noble steed

his arms a source of comfort

in a time of need.

He can be a teacher of

many, many things

of camping, fishing,

and how to tie shoe strings.

But most important of all

mine taught me through it all,

that of all men,

A dad can be a friend.

This is one I wrote for Mom/Genenut while out to sea.

My Spring Rose

With each day that passes,

that special place you have

in my heart aches for you.

The touch of your hand will be

like the soft caress

of a spring breeze

when I feel it once again.

The smell of your hair

will be like the perfume of the flowers

that ride upon that gentle wind

when I smell it once again.

Having your arms around me

will be like lying in a bed of spring flowers

when you hold me once again.

And your lips when you kiss me

will be like kissing the soft petals

of a rose in full bloom when our lips

meet once again.

The distance between us whenever we are apart

is not unlike the first frost of winter

that sends the flowers

in the garden of my heart

into that deep winter sleep.

All the flowers sleep,

all but one,

the spring rose

in the center of my garden,

it is kept warm by my love.

It's bloom is beautiful,

and eternal.

Never fading

always growing,

becoming more beautiful

with each passing day.

Just the thought of my rose

brings a smile to my heart,

while the sight of my rose

fills my soul with love and joy.

That love I feel

I give back to my spring rose,

one hundred times over,

to tend it,

to keep it safe,

and to help it grow.

You are the spring rose

that grows

in the center of the garden

of my heart that my love

tends to every day.

Wonderful writings Lord. Deeply thought and well written. I especially enjoyed the one to your father. :)

I used to write a lot of poetry but it's been many years since I last did. I always found that writing poetry was a lot like drawing. The placement and choice of words combined with a message truly is an art form.

That's a wonderful gift, not only to your father, but to yourself. One of the greatest things about writing is what we get out of the discovery about ourselves.

It must have gotten you a great moment from your Dad when you gave it to him.

Actually it gave me two great moments with him. Just over two years ago he came down with Viral encephalitis. It attacked the speech and memory centers of his brain. He is having a wonderful recovery and only doesn't remember six months of his life (six months that he doesn't want to remember). And his speech is back to where it was before he got ill. But during his recovery I got to give it to him again and it was a second first time for him to read it.

One more before I have to find/write more. This was one for Mom/Genenut too.

Hand In Hand

We will walk

on moonlight beaches

hand in hand

riding the stars

to the heavens.

We will run

amongst the angels

hand in hand

where no man

dares to tread.

We will reach

to new boundaries

hand in hand

pushing the limits

of our realities.

We will walk

on moonlight beaches

hand in hand

riding the stars

through the mysteries

of time eternal.

I do write, but its a tool for me to rid of something unwanted. Wouldn't be right to put here, besides they make sense only to me. :P

Good work there, you.

A doctor ... That's what I wanna be

A friend of mine is studying for doctor at the university, and they had to ride a poem in english, in which they explained their motivations to become a doctor. Part of the exam to see if they were allowed in that study. (not all applicants for doctor studys get accepted by the universitys in belgium). This was a test of both their knowlegde of englisch (important nowadays), as it was a test of how they saw: being a doctor.

First off, he passed his entrance examen, and is now a 2nd year Doctor student (he passed the first year), and I asked him if I could use this, having read it before. HE said 'offcourse'.

I found it funny ... hope you guys do to

@ Ari, I'd love to see your work.

Though I do a fair share of writing, I've never been much for poetry. Not from a lack of trying. The closest I done to poetry are short works for my novel for a prophesy--and they are so cheesy that I'll, most likely, drop them.

Oh....er....and there are....cough.....limericks.

eeeek well Ill think on it, I mean seriously, its dark disturbing and tends to leave people... unsettled.. the dark stuff anyway, I can toss up some of the calmer little ones though, will just have to type them in from my old notebooks sometime.

Well Ari if it helps, I did write some darker stuff too. If I can find it I will get it on here. I wrote a poem shortly after my mother died and it helped with my grief. It was titled Death Doth Weep. If I can find or remember it I will get it up here.

heh, it is funny.

"Heartaches treated

hmmm...that for relationship breakups? :)

And I've heard horror stories about the program for doctor's... I guess this helps with the grind.

Now...anyone got talent for a Sacred Poem? I've seen a lots of limericks...but a haiku or or ballad would be awesome!

:yay:

Ummm.....

Well once upon a time I had a grand idea that died a horrible death. I tried it on the SIF; describing your toon with a poem. To date the thread has gotten 66 reads but no replies.

So here we go as I hold my breath and post........

A mighty dark elf, I keep to myself

To cross my path is bad for your health

Wielding twin blades of poison or fire

To take over the world is my only desire

To take over the world is my only desire

I have no need for magic, no that's not for me

Just two bloody blades and god-like ability

Do not discount me and avert your glance

Bad things happen when I start to dance

I rush into the fray, kill all that I see

No one escapes, even though they might flee

My poison is deadly, though death may come slow

But death is certain, and this you must know

Surrounded by foes both sides front and back

I cut them all down with my spinning attack

From ice creek to Khorad, I've been around

And long trails of corpses litter the ground

And when the battel is finished I slowly turn round

To take inventory of the riches on the ground

Of the bodies of the falen I show little care

As they give off clouds of poison that rise to the air.

But there is one thing to be said in the midst of my braggin

I am still afraid of that @!#@#@# dragon.

And then something different.

A true attempt at something a bit darker. This is my first attempt at true poetry so go easy on me. It describes a dark period in my life.

My heart sings a song but the words are all wrong

Forbidden choices and guilty voices.

Like a moth to a flame I'm drawn again and again

The candle brings pain but then so does my shame

So I stand in the center, too weak to fight

I give my flesh to the left and my heart to the right

But my flesh starts to weaken and my heart starts to fade

Though only in dreams have the choices been made

I dream of a song that causes great pain

The tears as I wake proof of my shame
