  1. Just installed a HP42 emulator on the phone of our second. I still use the original which I bought when starting university. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP-42S Don't know why, but I like real calculators. In group working with random groups I may share a calculator but not a phone I think.
  2. Yes the energy costs make buying a new computer more attractive if not buying at the upper limits. There is always the argument that a new CPU saves more energy at the same cpu numbercrunching power than the one it replaces. Say there are 4 speeds for a new generation CPU, often the 3rd fastest is the one which I buy. The fastest needs lots of cooling (wasted energy) and is not this much faster than the ones a step or two steps slower. The one I bought for my oldest the money saved by buying not the fastest was used for a SSD. So the system with the third fastest is faster (in office and graphic work) than the system with the fastest but normal harddisc. It eats only halve the electric power. Add that faster computer replace rates allow higher prices in selling the old one.
  3. A bowling ball... I thought it would have been one of these I get rid of an addiction acryl things. I know people who place there last cigarette into an acryl block, or their soccer shoes after the last game they did, ... 10 pin bowling is rare here. There are some 9pin bowling places, we have even one in the cellar of our fire department for recreation. Personally I like 9pin over 10pin. But that is probably because I am more used to it: more straight shots, less rotating/spinning. At multi-nation NATO maneuvres we played often both and it is not easy to adapt from one to the other.
  4. I think you have way lower prices for electricity than germany. For a 2 year 10 hours a day use the i7 saves the extra costs compared to the i5 in saving energy=money. With a good energy saving motherboard it is even more. And if needed the i7 has the better number crunching power. Which is not only interesting for me as a math, but also for photo and video calculations. For laptops it is for me: either small to have it with me everytime, then preferred with a touch screen (typing numbers a lot) or BIG to really replace a desktop, then a full keyboard with fullsize numberpad Last ones were all of the tiny size. The midsized ones have no really use for me. I think they are mainly for students who have limited room in a lecture hall at university but need a close to normal keyboard for typing speed.
  5. Absinthe is allowed again in most european states at least. newer tests showed that toxic reaction of mouses and humans are not comparable all times. There is Waldmeister, woodruff, grewing just at our house and I am more used to it. its forbidden in commercial stuff but still allowed if you use it on your own. Its a tricky thing but harvested fresh at the right time and carefully prepared it is no real risc. We make even icecream based on it.
  6. Well, old and I mean really old school programmers still used emacs to code programs when there were software developements kits with full graphic surface. I wonder always how fast kids adapt to new technic. I know a 5 year old boy who lost a hand in an accident. He has an interface at the hand nerves which gets the impulses. He is faster with his artificial 'hand' then with his normal. The reason is simply he trains more with it. Kids have less to forget than adults to adapt to a new technique. I bet if it is brought into a game the next generation has less problems using it. Remember the dead born Apple Newton? It was just to early.
  7. Do you have 1.40 or 1.40hf. There is a hotfix version of the 140 patch. Did you try the CM-patch reset-tool? http://forum.sacred2.de/showthread.php?t=70989 There is a line to a download for the reset-tool. Download S2Reset-Tool (Rapidshare) Which can be used to reset all settings done by the CM-patch. The warnings say that you shouldn't try it o the classic version. It didn't test if Ice and Blood is installed.
  8. My insurance company more or less dictats which phone I have. I need one with PNA. PNA is Personennotrufanlage. English term is lone worker savety. It sends emergency calls with GPS coordinates if certain events occur. Programmable for no movement for a while, sudden position changes with impact trigger, ... There are not much licensed for the german PNA norm, so I use the one my company gave me. It looks strange if I am phoned at a business meeting at a restaurant. All have these cute smartphones and I have this hammer (you can really hammer a nail with it). I am also forced to wear a bracelet with a medical tag (blood group, stupid allergy to certain perfumes, so I really hope that the emergency doc isn't a women using it, ...). After watching '127hours' I use a wristband woven from red and black paracord which has a string-saw buildin. Call me paranoid. The picture is just for the idea. Mine has no plastic but metal elements which have an engraved red cross, is red and black as said, ...and it is closed by two very powerful magnets.
  9. I would limit the +ca-range items to classes which are weak in it. Overdoing ca-range modifiers may rob fun. The seraphim (CM-patch) for example is already near double ca-range late game.
  10. Don't worry ,commander Cliff McLane will save us. What seems like a fairy tale today may be reality tomorrow. Here we have a fairy tale of the day after tomorrow. There are no more national states, only mankind and her colonies in outer space. We settle on stars far-off, the bottom of the sea is developed as living place. With what are today unimaginable speeds, the starships of tomorrow transverse the Milky Way. One of this starships is the ORION, a little piece in the giant security system which protects the Earth from outer space threats. Let's accompany the ORION and her crew at their patrols-service on the edge of infinity ... The german blackand white series Raumpatrouille, space patrol, started with this words. Way more cult than Startrek in my childhood.
  11. Broccoli+Cheese: not that rare as you might think. The Pizza restaurant at my brothers place has it on the menu. With 5 kids I made the experience that Broccoli-Pizza is not wanted by them before they are 6 or older. Evolution made young kids instinctivly avoiding stuff that tastes bitter. They are like 10 times more sensitive than adults to it. And when they made experience with not really ripe vegs - they try to avoid them in future. So I am not really angry if the youngest leave spinach, cabbage and such untouched at the table. Ever tried a Flammkuchen/pizza from Brussel's sprouts which were harvested after the first frost period? Yummy Above picture is from a german cooking forum. A Brussel-Sprout and Bacon Pizza recipe in english: http://whiteonricecouple.com/recipes/brussels-sprouts-bacon-pizza/ I never know where a Pizza ends and a Flammkuchen starts. Probably the Flammkuchen is thinner and the outside nearly burned. We have a baking house at the village and before bread goes into the oven the temperature is tested with a Flammkuchen, tarte flambee, flame cake. The Alsace is not to far away, a century old travel road for salesman connects there. So even the oldest written recipes from Napoleon area mention it already at our place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarte_flamb%C3%A9e
  12. The hard hit of the shadow warrior already executes something like a shield bash. If you have your right hand free and a shield in the left the game counts it has a fist attack with 2 hits. It is a punch with the right, followed by a bash with the shield in the left. Actually a weaponless SW with a shield is playable much like a Kungfu Dryad. I call these builds Captain America builds. Captain America Build: 2 hits as if having double-wield, but the protection of a shield added. Late game using a mirror shield with 3 sockets and damage 45-45 rings in it is same as wielding 2 weapons with 135 damage, but without wasting a skill for doublewield. The experience I made with it: not having a weapon skill allows using a x% lifeleech weapon at bosses and play with just a shield at mobs. Because of the exploding double hits having 50% death blow makes one hits (actually two hits, but just ONE hard hit ca used). Since the second swing with the shield auto targets when the enemy is dead at first punch the kill speed is quite high.
  13. What I wanted when playing Unarmed: why there is no shield with damage? Would allow to have fun with kungfu characters earlier in game and not needing to reach gold levels for good x-x damage rings. Perhaps having the damage unlocked with shield lore.
  14. My last ice cream at my restaurant owning friend was something he called Fire and Ice. Schlehenfeuer (sloe fire) is a booze made from sloes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sloe_gin Ice was made from sloe sirup poured with Schlehenfeuer. Served after roasted venison. Schlehenfeuer can be selfmade. The commercial product is made by the same company who does the way more famous Jägermeister.
  15. Not much, just a poster for the classic componists wall of our 10 year old music genius:
  16. German birthday song: Wie gut dass du geboren bist wir hätten dich sonst sehr vermisst Its good that you were born, we would have missed you badly if not
  17. There are combat arts with x% manasteel on hit. My theory is that this is added to the 50% from half-reg and 20% from combat discipline mastery. So a near instant regeneration could be possible. http://darkmatters.org/forums/index.php?/topic/21023-combat-discipline-or-its-7-oclock-on-a-10-hour-clock/ Canditats for a try: melee elf with magic coup and temple warrior with this shocking grip.
  18. Chance for half turns the regenetation clock to 6 o clock before regeneration starts. Together with combat disvipline mastery you have to regenerate only 100-50-20 = 30 per cent. It allows mage builds with 200 runes in every buff and ca and still be able to spam a spell without reg per hit. My hardcore maximum ca-range DM mentalist makes full use of half regen, ca-mastery and alchemy boosted concentration potions. Think I had a thread once with underestimated modifiers: chance for half regeration time +ca range http://darkmatters.org/forums/index.php?/topic/19514-underestimated-item-modifiers/
  19. I know the lightmeter for the iphone of my daughter was founded by kickstarter. They promised special and/or early versions for supporters. I think it worked because the product was in an affordable price range at 25 dollar. However I bought mine in a photo shop because I never heard of the project before. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jamesflynn/luxi-incident-light-meter-adapter-for-iphone Promising production items but miscalculating may be close to jail in some countries if a judge thinks you hunted just for the money and never really planed a finished product. It may be hard to proof that all the money already was used up at developing with none left for production. In case of my daughter the riscs were 5 years grow-time for the plants, weather effects like storms, plant diseases,... On the other side carefully harvesting, using old trees with a lot of holes,...helps for birds to breed. This is no reason for a bank but allowed to ask for money from the nature protection fundus. The area around the trees should be kept free from bushes for access. Using old local goat races which are close to extinction allowed money from the acriculture fundus from the district. ... Why not something like kickstarter... Wild plants and exporting is different from country to country. So you should use a model which fits best for your needs, may even be asking in your town office for startup money. In our small town people know us and they liked the idea of our daughter even giving tipps which state/district founds could be used too.
  20. It is a dfference if you start selling just an idea or starting some business. Our oldest founded her own small company aged 17. The startupmoney was just 7500. Insurance, court taxes for registrating,... The idea was just to sell mistletoe planted on the dozens of old fruit trees we have. Takes 5 years for them to grow so she hopes to have finished unversity when they are ready to be harvested. She is studying arboristic and didnt want us for start money. State program for young company founders, district program to start companies in our low population area, nature protecting land use gave money too. She said even if the company fails it would be a good entry in her curriculum vitae.
  21. A friend of our second daughter suffers from Gluten allergy. We currently have the kids of my diseased friend for 3+ months. The boy friend of the daughter of my diseased friend suffers from an allergy against tomatos, ... Late Sunday morning the pizza delivery refused to drive because of black ice... So instead of doing 3 different pizza: dough was made from leftover potatos some frozen bear garlic from the fridge mixed into the dough tomato replaced by selfmade rose hip sirup oyster mushrooms grow on wet stray in the cellar of the barn sort of very low fat Salami sausage from wild boar and all rounded up with the wonderful barbaric selfmade hand cheese A very improvised recipe with stuff which was at home, lot of fun to discuss the mixes and tasted surprisingly good. I called it the Huntsman Pizza, mainly stuff a Huntsman could have collected on the way back home after shooting a boar. I always liked to create my own pizzas and often bought just the dough at a bakery. Which not so known pizza recipes you like?
  22. Afaik: third party programs which were licensed/rented. They were not owned by ascaron or then deepsilver.
  23. I wrote cm-patch 1.10 because there was another patch for the dragon mage around the time thecharacter was played - the llama patch. CM 140 added sigils which can boost ca range. So it is rather easier to play in 140 than 110. Using maelstom with big big range to weaken and reduce armour of enemies so the destroyers have much easier work.
  24. The calculations are a bit more complex. Take for example the hard hit attack of the SW: tokens = { entry0 = {"et_mult_weapondamage", 1300, 2, 0, 9 }, entry1 = {"et_baseAW", 200, 350, 0, 5 }, entry2 = {"et_damage_any_rel", 400, 100, 0, 5 }, entry3 = {"et_chance_bleeding", 197, 3, 1, 5 }, entry4 = {"et_damage_areasplash", 745, 5, 2, 9 }, entry5 = {"et_debuff_reduce_armor", 500, 10, 3, 9 }, entry6 = {"et_weapondamage_poison", 40, 10, 4, 9 }, entry7 = {"et_life_leech", 30, 15, 5, 9 }, entry8 = {"et_chance_deepwound", 200, 2, 6, 5 }, }, Entry1 says that hard hit has an extra base attack value of 20+35 per CA-level. This base attack value would be multiplied by speed lore for example. On the other hand the SW has combat arts which give temporary combat boosts. When would I take speed lore on a character? If: The preferred set has no run speed, like the x% life leech set of the dryad and socketing run speed would eat away the needed sockets for x-x damage for a weaponless Kungfu If: The preferred set has a lot of base attack and defense. Some care more for a good look than for the perfect fighter. If: The weapon ca_s all give base attack value. In this case you should fine tune your character. Check spells.txt, calculate the xtra base attack a combat art will give. Socket this amount into a empty weapon slot and compare the hit chance for normal attack and ca-attack. If the ca-hit-chance is way to high you can reduce some sockets for -x% chance that enemy can evade.
