  1. Sorry, my bad... Oron is European and I think the Euro English was 1.8.46 You probably do want the 1.8.26. Can't remember the split... think it was US/UK english vs non-US/UK english.
  2. We need to clarify 32-bit problems from 64-bit problems. Sacred has not worked w/ 64-bit from the very beginning. I found a post by Halenthal from 2006, and TornadoX1 says the same, that the Sacred problem w/ 64-bit has to do w/ the copy protection software (which was made by a 3rd party, not by Ascaron). This makes the best solution to be updating all the way to Underworld 2.28 (which removed the CD check). That said, you can try Oron Orcbane's suggestions: Edit: Oh, I almost forgot Dobster's method which had high success: http://forum.sacred2.com/showpost.php?p=648411&postcount=2 (hmmm, so it might be possible to do the install in XP mode and then copy the whole folder to Win7 and then run) Edit: if you want to search more on SIF, do an advanced search, look only S1/UW and subfolders and look for "64 bit" (just be warned a few idiots posted Sacred 2 problems in the S1 area so read closely before following any advice.)

  4. At the moment, I'm seeing about getting 24 fluorescent lights at my fraternal lodge rewired with modern electronic ballasts. It's bugged me for years that several are burnt out and they all hum badly, so I seized an opportunity and got a great price on parts. I figure w/ 3 ladders and 4-5 guys, we can get them all wired on a Saturday morning. It won't save enough electricity to matter (the lights are only used about 40 hours per month). But it'll be great to have them all working and quiet. @Chattius - I've found the terms "masonry heater" and "mass heater". I also found where similar is called a "Russian fireplace". http://mha-net.org/html/gallery.htm http://www.pyromasse.ca/infoe.html
  5. Just last night I was cleaning gunk out of the remote to the first tv I bought myself, so I can relate to your tale, Schot. When the opportunity comes around again, locolagarto hit the number one issue... how far away from the screen will you normally be viewing. If you're sitting on a sofa watching a 32", then 720 will be fine. Some charts would say that you'd have to be closer than 4 feet for 1080p to be noticable on a 32". And when you get to really big tvs then you have minumum viewing distances to avoid pixelization. Which is why, in the store, you need to stand both close and far to really get a feel for a tv.
  6. My nephew's foreign school in Nagoya (which is twice as far from Fukushima as Tokyo) has resumed classes after waiting to see what the foreign schools in Tokyo would do (where the kids of diplomats and business people attend). Still pretty scary w/ all the reports of radiation showing up in so many places.
  7. The direct translation works great: layer (or layered) salad. http://www.google.com/images?q=layer+salad And of course, the yellow stuff in that salad I'd call corn.
  8. At one job I was very bored and kept a spreadsheet for a couple months of the number of each color of M&M's I'd get in my afternoon snack. I'd eat each color separately. The only problem is I realized I needed to track the lot numbers because each lot would have similar color ratios (I figured that out after 2 or 3 bags had zero reds). But otherwise, I like to mix stuff together. I especially tend to mix my rice and beans at Mexican and then eat them with chips (like a dip). And peas go well mixed into mashed potatoes (which actually makes the peas easier to eat because you're not chasing them around to get them onto your fork). And some meals absolutely should be built forkful by forkful to get the right blend of flavors. For example the classic American Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, dressing and cranberry sauce; each forkful should have a bit of each for the full flavor combination experience.
  9. A month and a half later, this game has yet to blossom. They've made some tweaks and additions. But they still haven't released base attacking. Ship battles against the computer have become boring because they lack any randomness; the AI fleets are the same ships w/ the same weapons and their strategy is attack the closest ship. They recently adjusted construction times from beta levels to "live" levels. End game construction times are days to a week or more per upgrade/research. My personal biggest disappointment with the developers is their failure to realize that cosmetic bugs, while not affecting gameplay, make their game look tacky and unprofessional. Just because something is low priority, if it only takes 5-10 minutes and makes the game look polished, then do it. For example, on the main screen it says "Netal" instead of "Metal". How hard is that to fix? If you can't fix sloppy things on the surface of the game, then how sloppy must the guts of your game be? Well, based on the bugs they're having, must be some sloppy coding in there.
  10. At first glance I thought "What new at DM?" would be a newsletter, but one click and it's easy to figure out what it is. I agree the word "content" feels a tad awkward. Edit: Hey, Gogo, the "Darkness" skin still says "view new content".
  11. Howdy Sly! I'm in Tulsa but have friends and family in the Hill Country and just north. A far too large a number of folks on here is Yankees but I try not to hold it agin 'em. Don't be a stranger... the porch light's always on round here! 'teff
  12. Radiohead - Creep And I will never watch that movie because Zuckerberg sickens me (and I realize he didn't authorize the movie, but I still won't on principle).
  13. I quit taking game magazines several years ago, so I only know about new games I stumble across. So yes, an ad showing new games would be okay to me. And then if I buy it, it helps support the site. Which makes it a win-win. Just because I'm registered doesn't mean I shouldn't help support the site if occassion arises.
  14. My mother was a system engineer on mainframes... she'll tell you: hardware people always blame the software; software people always blame the hardware.
  15. I learn something new every day. Pork caul fat http://www.mysteak.com/MyCart/ProductListing/65/Pork_Caul_Fat_Freezer-Ready_.aspx In some places it may be called "lace fat".
  16. I think "turnip top" and "turnip greens" are your best translation for cooking. http://www.mariobatali.com/ingredients_turnip.cfm I've also come up the terms "colza" and "turnip rape" but those seem to be more agricultural terms. Rapini (broccoli rabe) is a different type/species/whatever of Brassica rapa.
  17. 1) They totally screwed up w/ the split publishers having split servers... 1/2 the US players jumped ship and went to the EU servers which ultimately doomed US. 2) Did they ever fix the horrid flaws in the MP buddy system? I know in beta, it was by toon and not by user. So in hardcore, the moment you died, you couldn't find your buddies again because they're all linked to a dead toon. Same for making a new toon, or having a mule/forger/shopper.
  18. My dad is a 6 minute drive and my mom is a 6 hour drive. I'm wanting to sell my house but since Dad has Alzheimers, I won't move out of the city.
  19. Nothing on US Amazon. And the latest word on the US Mythos site is from January and simply says that US release will be after EU release. Need to find myself some free time and get an invite for the EU beta.
  20. I actually see 150GB as a reasonable number. Some googling finds different numbers but let's take a 2-hour HD movie from netflix @ 1.7GB of data. That's 88 HD movies a month. On an busy month, I only watch 10 netflix movies. With all the net neutrality noise right now, I foresee a number of internet service taking action so the highest users foot their own bill. Online storage provider Mozy recently switched from unlimited to tiered pricing because of a small percent of users taking up 100's of GB with movies and other media files. Hmmm, has anyone playing Mythos beta or who plays games on Steam tried running a data usage monitor? I wonder what usage looks like w/ all that content coming via the net.
  21. You made me look... this will likely rank as 5th largest since 1900. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/world/10_largest_world.php
  22. She's not in School Year Abroad in Nagoya, is she? That's where my nephew is. I saw about the quake at 2am and took a bit to not panic and call and wake my brother up. An hour ago my brother posted an email from the school's principal that it was only a mild quake in Nagoya area and no damage at the school.
  23. At home, I seriously manage my email. My main restriction is max space allowed by my ISP: 100MB. So I occasionally sort by size and see what can go (sometimes it means saving pictures to my HD so I can delete the email). Guess my rule of thumb is delete it if I'll never want to see it again. If I'm in doubt, I keep it. Then every few months I go thru my entire inbox and purge some more. At former job, we were told to keep nothing over 2 years old for liability reasons, which meant putting all old emails into an archive file so the hardheads wouldn't come down on us.
  24. Closest I've come to this level of disaster was w/ a camp stove borrowed from my girlfriend's dad. It was probably unused for too many years. Noticed a small blue flame and heard a faint "ssss" in locations that shouldn't have them. Long story short - I took the old canisters 20 yards into the woods to let them vent all their gas and we ate cold food. Glad you came out safe and two thumbs up on having a fire extinguisher (be sure to replace it soon!).
