gobbledygook => gibberish

(If I had been forward-thinking I would have limited this thread to one word only, no proper nouns, no hyphenated words and only English words. Thinking up a reply to some of these posts... well:B6nFRAh:)

Horsie -> Belgian Horse

Giddy-Up? Hüha would be used to move ours :)

They are surely no ponies. Our two are retired, 26 and 24 years old and they were there when we bought the house. When they were younger they were used for forest work.

Our oldest had to do working with an unknown horse for a paper in arboristic and forest economy. She had to do rope and chain attaching to trunks and either to a to a side or at the back of the horse. Single trunk and up to three...

Horses are used in forests where you want to keep nice trees and remove smaller ones so that the nice can grow. So no room for harvesters, And they are a lot cheaper than using a helicopter for transport.

Quite dangerous if there are horseflies around so it is mainly done at cold temperatures.

maple syrup -> slavery

Having access to sugar, sugarcanes harvested in colonies by slaves, was big money. Prussia under Friedrich II decided to produce it's own sugar to have it way cheaper and Friedrich was against slavery. After some years research making sugar from fodder beets was a success. The beets with the most sugar were chosen to create the nowadays sugar beet.

In Germany sugar beet syrup is used for 200 years now and takes the place of maple syrup.
