Adding new images to SacredWiki Bestiary

Recommended Posts

Got another question for you gogo ( I hope that McMuffin was tasty)

When linking the enemies from the Bestiary to the Quest page, where would you prefer the links go?

I'm using Impure Hands as my guinea pig/test area. I've linked them in the 'Quick Walkthrough', 'Detailed Walkthrough' and also in a section I added called 'Quest Enemies'. Which one do you prefer?

Sometimes the existing text doesn't lend itself well to insert info in either walkthrough which is why I made the Quest Enemy section. I prefer this solution, and if you agree just need to know if it's placement is o.k. on the page :D

Edit: how hard is it to make a Bestiary Enemy Template and put it in the toolbar? It would really be helpful to me :)

It's a good question. I would think the best place to link to an enemy firstl is wherever they are first mentioned in the quest writeup. And of course, other places are good too just to make the linking make more sense as the quest guide is explained.

And of course, you can always add more notes as you wish into the guide... detailed walkthrough is where you can add pretty much anything you want... extra lists of anything you find interesting, perhaps even of wiki quest enemies, notes, pix, anything.

Saw now what you did and like it very much. The links are fitting into the guide seamlessly.

Good job

:D

I had thought of doing that but some write-ups don't specifically mention the enemy name but instead are generic.... I.e."kill 5 robbers" when they are actually a mix of Brigands and Assassins. My other concern is consistency. I would like for anyone using the wiki to not have to search the text but instead know exactly where the enemy links are on every page. I guess I prefer adding the 'Quest Enemy' section but will go along with whatever you prefer.

Got a bunch of the High Elf enemies done (that's only the Sloeford/Western Tyr Lisia area :D )

Also Found an Inquistion Informant on the road leading to the Forgotten Gardens (wasn't there first time I went thru). Hoping someone might know why she was there and if she is linked to any quest.

Sorry for all my double posts in this thread but just want to make sure you see it as issues/questions come up.

On both High Elf pages I'm getting this warning when editing:

WARNING: This page is 35 kilobytes long; some browsers may have problems editing pages approaching or longer than 32kb. Please consider breaking the page into smaller sections.

I'm Especially concerned about it on the HE Quest Enemy page since I'm probably not even halfway done yet. Is this something we need to resolve or worry about before I add more images to that page?

Link to comment

Don't you ever take breaks Knuckles? You get back to work and now yer a machine! :(

The Inquisition Informant is probably mode specific. Class, alignment, game mode...

As for the warning message we can start worrying when your page gets as long as the All Class Uniques page. :D

P.s.

When if I can get that template done it will probably reduce the file size of the page quite a bit.

I'm kind of a workaholic :D

So the last 3-4 years have been extremely frustrating for me. Getting back to work was the best therapy possible. Have no idea what I'll do if/when I retire lol. Same with the Bestiary, once I decide to do something, I give 110% and leave no stone unturned. I keep finding things I want to change or add, and, well I just HAVE to do it :P

You can blame my dad. His mantra was 'Do a job once and do it right'. Guess it rubbed off on me. I do the greatest wiring jobs no one will ever see. All of it hidden but dressed out correctly and neatly. Because I know it's there and just can't bring myself to do sub-standard work.

You've created a monster Schot and gogo lol

Yup that page is pretty big....guess I'm safe to continue for a while

p.s. I am taking a break today (sort of) I'm re-doing all the cable and computer wiring to my room. And adding some electrical outlets. My bedroom is on the 2nd floor and connections are in the basement, I hacked it in since when I did it I had just had back surgery and know that I'm all better it's time to do it right :(

Link to comment

Well I guess I can understand that. Being more or less inactive for that long would make most anyone want to run and run and run. K, you can stop running now Knuckles. :D Totally get you on the do it right first phylosophy. I'm very much the same way. I tend to investigate a fair bit before making a plan and am always looking to improve my work in order to make it more tidy.

Just so long as you don't start eating the wiki framework I'm happy to have yah monster and all Knuckles. ^^

Got a quick question on Photobucket

Is there an easy way to sort/alphabetize the pics? Would make it a lot easier to find out if I've already up-loaded a particular pic or find one I want to update. I could easily have a 100+ HE Quest enemy pics by the time I'm finished.

Link to comment

hmmm, no way I 've found myself... usually categories is enough to find something...or perhaps you can set up your own way? sorting with bucket is inwieldy at times

:sigh:

gogo

p.s.I really like the way you have made mini lists of quest enemies directly within the quest page. Sharp and adds depth to the referencing/

Link to comment

Guess I should have explored photobucket a bit first before asking :sigh:

Found it's pretty easy to do

Just open the folder you want to organize:

Click Organize tab on top

Select all pics

Then select alpha by filename

And voila all pics are alphabetized :yay:

I was hoping you'd like the way I linked the quest enemies. It's concise and easy to find :)

Got a TON of pics to upload and a lot of editing to do (and still in Thylysium) If I don't get burnt out after all this I'll probably do each Character specific chain quest. Figured I'd give you a heads up on it just in case we want a separate section for any enemies specific to these quests.

With the code Schot posted on the Balance.txt fiile it only takes a quest or 2 to get a level 1 toon to level 200 :) So doing those quests should be pretty quick

Link to comment

Also found out once you select sorting criteria on the bestiary folder (or any folder), it saves your preferences so any subsequent entries are automatically sorted that way. Just made my job a lot easier :yay:

Also made another folder for HE Quest Enemies only-so got a lot of re-linking to do :sigh:

Got a bit of a conundrum....

Have 3 totally different enemies from 3 different quests that all have the same name

HE-Guard-Stats.jpg

HE-GuardSW-Stats.jpg

HE-GuardTheEscape-Stats.jpg

not sure how I should differentiate between the three without making the enemy title shown look weird.

My only idea is to add quest name in title in parentheses

http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php5/Sacre...f_Quest_Enemies (scroll down to Guard)

Any thoughts?

Link to comment

For enemies like that knuckles I would put them all on the same page called Sacred 2:Guard. Then on that page you could put all three of them. That's how I would do it but I'll ask gogo to have a peek. :)

It's effective enough but in terms of efficiency I'd go with a single page for enemies with the same name and then within the enemy page create == Headers == to separate the data. Here's something I put together as an example:

Page Name: Sacred 2:Guard

Notice that I've made the == Headers == link to their respective quests.

P.s.

You might notice I use less image tags in my wiki edits. It's a feature in the wiki that will recognize an image url and automatically apply image tags to the url so that it will display. For example a simple image can be entered into a wiki article like this:

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff165/SacredWiki/Sacred_2/Bestiary/High%20Elf%20Quest%20Enemies/HE-Guard-Stats.jpg

A thumbnail is somewhat different but can also be added to the wiki without using image bbcode tags like this:

[http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff165/SacredWiki/Sacred_2/Bestiary/High%20Elf%20Quest%20Enemies/HE-GuardTheEscape.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff165/SacredWiki/Sacred_2/Bestiary/High%20Elf%20Quest%20Enemies/th_HE-GuardTheEscape.jpg]

On the wiki al you need to use is the [ bracket to start the thumbnail then the url to the large version of the image, then a space, then the url to the small version of the image and finally a ] bracket.

Of course it's much easier to just copy the thumbnail bbcode from photobucket but none the less the wiki way sometimes is more convenient.

Cheers Knuckles and remember... The most amount of quests are in the High Elf and Human region. Don't burn yourself out!

Just caught this before calling it a night and looked at the way this game is trying to confuse us :)

I like Schot's idea, this way it keeps all the "guards" on one page, simpler and it all runs down like a good bestiary.

lol, knuckles this is a huge undertaking, but will be splendid when completed, especially with the level of detail you are putting in. ^^

:)

I'm cool with whatever you want (unless I'm really adamant about something-then get ready for a battle, I'm stubborn :) )

I can do as Schot has laid out but have a question...what do I put on the main HE Quest enemy Page?

@gogo.....Yup I have a feeling the game will do this a few more times to me. I didn't realize how big of a project this was going to be...if I had I might have had 2nd thoughts :) But now that I've jumped in with both feet I'll see it thru to the end

Link to comment

On the High Elf Quest Enemies#Guard_.28Brothers_in_Arms.29 page I would change their links to point to the Guard page and just under the == Header == of each on the main page add a simple note that they share the same name and page but are part of different quests.

Oh and I've started working on that template you asked about. There's just one lil bug in the works. Should have it ready tomorrow but feel free to experiment and get aquainted with it.

Template:QE

Link to comment

Sorry if I sound a little dense but want to be sure I understand exactly what you mean.

I'd leave the pics on main page but just combine them under one header? Then add the little note in there? Or do I remove the pics too?

Link to comment

Ok, needed to think about it a bit. I've set up the page now the way that I was meaning. Only thing I didn't add is the 'note' part of it I suggested to you in my previous post. Personally I don't think you need to add the note but I suggested it in case you would want a way to specify each enemy with further details.

High Elf Quest Enemies#Guard

Link to comment

K... I understand it completely now (well since you did all the work it was easy to understand :) ) Just in time too, since I found Quest Guard #4 and Quest Ghost #2 and #3 last night. :o

@ Schot: I see the coding is a bit different on the template than what I've been using. Will use the new code now but should I convert all the existing stuff over to that ? Be a bit of work to do, but I don't mind doing it.. Would rather have it all the same (think of it as neatly run code hidden where no one can see :D )

Edit...Started using template....

1) Not sure how you get Weakest Against/Damage Done icons inserted via template.

2) Also damage icons formatting is a little off (some have the index dot, some don't).

3) When I click on individual enemy edit button, I don't see any of the data I just put in via main page edit.

4) Can I get a button on the toolbar for the template ?

Just some minor stuff...over all I can see this saving mucho time especially if I get a toolbar icon :D

Link to comment

Oh hold off just a while on using that Template Knuckles. It isn't fully functional yet. Glad you like it though. ^^

At the moment I'm working on an interesting solution to help you with the project but it's going to take me another day or so. In the meantime I'd suggest you take a much deserved break. Take pics if you like but I'd suggest you not add any more beasties just yet.

Keep an eye on the boss page if you're curious about what I'm up to. :D

Link to comment

Oooooook. At long last we have something resembling a functional template for quest enemies. Whew! You can tinker with the template now Knuckles. :pitcher:

Template:Quest Enemy

I've converted the first two High Elf quest enemies to use the template which is working nicely. As well as the template I've been using Transclusion on the Boss Bestiary. I think you should consider doing the same. In fact I'm sure it would benefit the quest bestiary much more. The first two enemies are transcluded on the High Elf Quest Enemy page which you can see from within the full page edit. It looks like this:

== [[sacred 2:Abbess Wilgyrien|Abbess Wilgyrien]] ==

{{:Sacred 2:Abbess Wilgyrien}}

== [[sacred 2:Ambul|Ambul]] ==

{{:Sacred 2:Ambul}}

The bold parts are the transclusiuons and it simply means that it is importing the contents from the pages Abbess Wilgyrien and Ambul. {{:PAGENAME}} is what initiates the function to transclude. I "might" make a button to simplify the encapsulation. After my vacation! :drunkards:

Oh and check out the History of the High Elf Quest Enemies page. Notice my recent edit there brought the page file size from (72,275 bytes) down to (4,136 bytes). I changed all the data on the page to enable all enemies to be transcluded but it can't be used yet. I just saved the work I had done so you could use it later if you wanted. When the enemy pages have been changed to use the template you would be able to use the edit I made to tidy things up.

Ok well I think I've rambled on long enough. A button is in the works but that will take some time. You can use the template though. Any changes I make for the button won't have an effect on your work.

Cheers Knuckles. :resp:

Link to comment

Looks like I got a lot of Transclusioning to do :resp:

Of course right now it all seems completely un-understandable to me but I'm sure after a try or 2 (or 3 or 4or...) I'll get the hang of it. I'll be somewhat limited in what I can do for a few days. Tues, Wed and Thurs all look to be long days, at least 14-16 hours at work. But got nothing planned for the weekend so I'll be able to knock a bunch of this out.

Template looks super easy to use. Nice work on it Schot. Will make it sooo much easier for me to add enemies

TYVM :drunkards:

No worries on the button...take that vacation...you need and deserve one :pitcher:

Link to comment

*cough*cough*

Umm before that vacation got an itty bitty easy thing I need done. Gotta fix the font color for Ice.

That's it :D

Just re-did Angarato. Had a beast of a time getting the pic to layout correctly but I think I know what I need to do there from now on. Gonna re-do all the existing entries before adding new ones, so it looks like this is what I'm doing the next night or 2.

edit: yup another question

How do I go about naming an enemy like the Assassin? I have a Human and High Elf version. Also enemies like Guards where I have 3 versions might give me some troubles.

Aaaaaaaaaand: on some enemies I have extra pics on actual enemy page. How do I code it so those pics stay on only on enemy page and not index?
