How did you get your game/forum name?

I had a similar thread over at the SIF but it's buried somewhere, so I thought I would revive the idea here. Simply, how did you come up with your forum and/or game account name?

 

For me, Knuckles was a complete mistake

 

When I first went online to play MP I thought I was entering my character name and not account name. Since I was making an unarmed Glad, I wanted 'Knuckles' to be his name. When I found my error it was too late. And by the time I found how I could change it, everyone knew me as Knuckles So I ended up changing my forum name instead.

 

Just happy I didn't use 'Knucklehead' or something lol

 

 

Bonus points for anyone who remembers my original SIF name. I've told a very few people, so those that know because I told you, please don't spoil it for others. I'm wondering if anyone remembers

As for my name - I did the same thing - thought it was a toon name I was entering -- not that it matters much. It was just made up anyway. Once set, I chose to re-use it for the forum to keep things easy for me.

Well my name means Siliceous earth, but I did not know this fact when I chose it. I have used this name for just about every forum and email account for years. I've though of changing it lately as an old co-worker from about 9 years ago started using it--he thought it sounded so cool.

 

So a google search of Silearth will turn up a few of my posts here and in the SIF and then a Nascar fan site(his not mine) and a few dating sites(Silearth is looking for love)

 

Silearth, besides being Siliceous Earth, is simply a place-holder name from my novel--it was/is the name of a demon. A less common name that I also used in some places(also a demon) was Darzidzious.

I used to be Maniac... then it changed to Maniac007 because one of the previous companies had this bright idea to change pc passwords every month. This bright idea phased out after 7 months needless to say...

Then on this forum there was a thread that interested googling your name, and it turned out that Manaic007 was linked to rather a lot of porn sites and I had to change my name. So I tried getting a unique name and googling every "unique" name still turned up some results. So I got frustrated, and screaming and shouting. So I ended up with a Shakespearian "Scleameth".

My RL name: Timo. It comes from Timotheus. I used that on the SIF.

Since everyone in Sacred knew me by Timotheus, I stopped using my game tag ToiMoi (nickname I got at junior high),

although I actually really miss it a lot I've been thinking about changing my SIF/Sacred name quite some time...

I honestly couldn't say. It's quite possible I stole it in a moment of uninspiration. I just use "Undone" most places now.

 

A quick google of "th3undon3on3" will turn up a couple of threads here, myspaz, archived versions of various Werewolf games (similar to the Mafia card games. Not that I've played any of them.) from the Bethesda forums, a couple of OOF links, a few archived posts of mine from the Bethesda forums which have made their way to other sites, a few other forums I infrequently frequent, and a plethora of last.fm links in various languages. Nothing that isn't "me" though.

 

 

Whenever someone asks me what the name means it's easiest just to reply "I don't know"

My first nick was Knip Dyolf........google actually has me at the top of the list with some 2001 posts about wizardry 8

This nick came about from my love of Pink Floyd music which I still love with a passion

 

Then I took Herman (an old RL nick because apparently I look like Herman Munster when I walk) which I used mainly in the SIF.

 

Then came stubbie. This originated when Guild Wars released.

I wanted a nick that would be recognised by aussies (as I was trying to join an aussie guild at the time) and stubbie is aussie for both a small bottle of beer as well as a style of shorts (that look pretty bad btw..lol)

I used it originally only in game, but it then became my nick of choice in forums

 

I always sign off as stubbs, cause just like in RL, I tend to shorten names.

Genenut - Genealogy Nut.... I maintain (though not as often as I should since 2nd child arrived) 2 different genealogy websites and I belong to a national genealogy related group.

 

My in game account is due to a kinda mistake. I didnt know the account names were visible when playing online so I just picked a name to differentiate it from my hubby's account for his copy of sacred gold and my plus account. But I now own a 2nd acct and that one matches my forum name.

 

My SIF name is a variation of the two since Genenut tends to be a popular nick and I dont always get to use it....

 

In RL my "nickname" is Mommy ... *lol* ... I get called that alot... of course its usually being yelled by a minor at the top of his lungs and while holding a disputed toy or injured limb (with the other one holding what injured the limb)....

Well Mine was a creation from an elvish dictionary.

I have a pair of silver foxes who live behind my house and very rarely see them except under a full moon. They are so beautiful and I get a wonderful feeling every time they appear, and of course I only wear silver and am held under the power of the moon as well.. Oh so Im on the more mystical side of life.. Much more fun there

Oh wow... I don't even remember just how many names I've had over the years

 

Before I was let anywhere near the computer when we first got it 8 - 9 years ago, my parents gave me a very very VERY long lecture about the internet - what to do and what not to do... I mean when I was smaller my father flipped out when he caught me giving my e-mail address to my friends over a chatroom... so I developed a habit (and memory) to create a different kind of username and password for each and every place I registered at (to make sure no one could make any connections and find me)

 

I blame this nick 100% on my booyfriend. My first name is Kerlin, but I love the "y" letter in names - so on MSN I had the name "Kerlyn" all the time. And because of my personality and how I sometimes behave and what I say - he started calling me his lil lynx (I guess he didn't want kitty or something) and I liked it a lot ^ ^ So I ended up combining Kerlyn and Lynx and got the nick I have now

P.S. My old clan members started calling me Kery for short though, so now I just tell everyone to use it in-game ^___~

all of my names are from punk rock songs. what I grew up with. I haven't gotten my sacred account fixed, so I don't even know what my name is on it =P. but when I play COD or anything on forums, I'm Totalimmortal. song by AFI. if I can't use totalimmortal, then it's 1000 Good Intentions (A song by RISE AGAINST) or Immortal. (everyone calls me Total or TI though.) even co-workers have called me Total in the past.

Voided came from a bad day in RL, but that was long after my original name. If I hadn't messed up game account both game and forum would have a different name than Knuckles right now. Not sure this will help but original name was a nick for a pet that I had that could do something that I thought was pretty cool.

Took me a loooong time to get the connection of your two names Knuckles.

 

Mine was born out of my all time fave game, (here I go again!). Tron 2.0 FTW! When I first started playing it in August of 2003 I went through a few different names while I was trying to figure out a nice constant name. Eventually I decided on Schot because the game was all about "being a good shot" or having good aim in order to hit your opponent. An fps game with a big twist.

trd comes from toyota racing development. loved fast trucks, had a supercharged tacoma at the time and I was in need of a nick and lacked creativity as usual, so I just went with that. now I am all growned up and a diesel freak, should change name to blacksmoke or something similar.

I always love to read about where people get their nicks from. Fascinating reading. I'm not too sure where my name comes from anymore... but I remember always changing it... gogoblender was one name I picked one day, I guess I was just mixing up a bunch of names... you guys know my fascination with the kitchen... and it stuck.

I had a name even before Voided and Knuckles...I doubt many would remember as you had to be playing in 2004 and visiting SIF then. In fact I can't find one thread with original name.

 

But when I first was on SIF I went by the name of 'Rockdog'. It was in reference to a black lab I had named Shadow. He absolutely loved the beach. One day I was bored and picked up a rock and tossed into ocean. Well Shadow went out, dove and came back with rock. I could throw 3-4 rocks and he'd find them all. Everyone started calling him Rockdog and after awhile the name got applied to me too

 

After goofing up in-game name I changed forum name over to Knuckles just so I had the same name in both spots
